DESPERADO BBQ RUB AND SAUCE REVIEW

Desperado BBQ is a KCBS (Kansas City Barbecue Society) team with award-winning barbecue sauces and rubs, which are full of legendary wild west barbecue flavor. Gluten FREE, All Natural and FDA approved. I have had the pleasure of connecting with Steve Botkins from Desperado BBQ. I have also been lucky enough to give their award-winning sauces and rub a try. Their Award Winning Barbecue Sauces and Rubs Compliment Beef, Chicken and Pork. Here is my review.
My review started off a little shaky, not because of anything on my or Desperado’s part. I’m blaming the US Postal mail. When I initially received the sauces and rub, the Hawaiian Style sauce was busted and it was over everything. Steve quickly sent another bottle of sauce and I waited for it before moving forward.
I usually conduct a simple test when I first get sauce which consists of smelling the sauce, trying it on bread and simply tasting it from a spoon. I must say, the smell left me thinking the sauces (Original & Hawaiian) were not any different from too many other sauces, boy was I wrong! Upon tasting them, there was a distinct difference between the two sauces. They were both sweet but the Original had a savory flavor to it, while the Hawaiian style was sweet with what seemed like a hint of sweet pineapples. Did I mention it was addictive?
HAWAIIAN STYLE SAUCE
So, my first test of Desperado BBQ sauce was with the Hawaiian Style, on some chicken that I smoked, seasoned with a simple salt, pepper and garlic seasoning. I ate a couple of wings plain with nothing on them. I do this so I can better gauge the difference the sauce makes. I then tried some with sauce on them…….. Here is where my addiction started for real!!! Man, let me tell you! The Hawaiian Style sauce sent the flavor through the roof. This is one of the few sauces where it’s hard for me to describe the joy my mouth experienced. Oh yeah, by the end of the year I’m making a Top 10 Barbeque Addiction list and you can be sure this sauce will be on it. Honestly folks, the flavor of this sauce is great and I have to get another bottle because I want to try it on a few other things. Yes! I used it all up making chicken again.
ORIGINAL STYLE SAUCE & HIGH PLAINS DUST RUB
The High Plains Dust Rub I’ve tried on a couple of things as well, like pork loin, chops, burgers, ribs and ribs tips. I like the rub. I like it a lot! Why, because it is how I like my rubs; it has a bit of a kick on the tail end. This works nicely with the two sauces seeing they are sweet, it give things a good balance.
For the 4th of July I had grill duty for the family cookout. Let me tell you I have a big family! I cooked 20 slabs of ribs, 15 rib tips and 120 chicken leg quarters. Well those other 5 rib tips I kept and cooked them this past weekend for home. I used the High Plains Dust Rub to season them with and I glazed them with the Original Style Sauce. I kept the cook pretty simple. I smoked the rib tips at 250 using a 70/30 mix of hickory and mesquite wood. During the last 45 minutes of cooking I glazed the tips with the sauce. When they were done I let them sit for about 10 minutes before cutting and plating them. You can not honestly tell me those are not some of the prettiest rib tips you have ever seen!
CONCLUSION:
As stated above, I like the rub and their rub and sauce works well together because they compliment each other. The rub isn’t too sweet and has a nice kick. The sauce isn’t just sweet, it’s tangy with a savory body. These two worked well together on the rib tips I made and they came out GREAT! I can honestly say I’m ordering some to always have around the house. Make sure you do the same. Every time I look at those pictures above I get hungry thinking how good they were! I now know personally why Desperado BBQ rub and sauces are award-winning!
I suggest you visit Desperado BBQ website and order some rub and sauce today!

Or just pimping your website.THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER

I am not pimping my site. You don't see any links to my site posted. I shared links to Desperado BBQ.
I'm just sharing, didn't now that was a crime!
Biggreenpharmacist my family is getting me the Small BGE for fathers day.I Smoke -
Thats awesome. I have a small and a large. I use my small a LOT.
As far as the other comments, we get people from time to time who have no interest in eggs or even kamado's in general. They just try to use this site to pimp their stuff since we have a large group that likes to participate.Little Rock, AR

Understandable!
The reason I didn't post links to my site was because I didn't want anyone thinking that's what I was doing.
I'm a bbq cooking addict of sorts. I'm building my collection of grills and smokers. Outside of the BGE I'm getting a Pit Barrel Smoker and a Treager this year.I Smoke -
Now this is an article that I have posted on my site but I think it only makes sense for me to repost it here fully rather than ask or expect people from this forum to leave the forum to go to me site and read the article.
I'm better skilled at SEO and traffic generation than to simply try and get traffic from the forum, plus Twitter and Facebook work FAR better, plus you don't have to worry about folks thinking you're pimping your site.

Allow me to elaborate on @Biggreenpharmacists point .... If we were to see a post from someone on here who doesn't participate regularly in the forum with cooks or general cooking talk and they were giving a "review" of a special new BBQ product we could get suspicious that the new user wasn't here out of the kindness of their heart but may actually have a financial tie to said product.Biggreenpharmacist said:we get people from time to time who have no interest in eggs or even kamado's in general. They just try to use this site to pimp their stuff since we have a large group that likes to participate.
Then, if one were so inclined they could go and click on the persons name to see what other contributions they had made to the forum over time. If said persons contrbtions were 50% discussing or giving away new BBQ products, you can see how that would surely raise a few alarm bells.
After that.... If one were feeling truly ambitions... They could goto Google and type in some combination of words to see if their was a theme.... Some sort of pattern. Im just hypothesizing here but maybe something along the lines "pigskin BBQ desperado BBQ" would do the trick. Now here is the kicker... If that search were to turn up links all over the Internet on Facebook, Pintrest, google+ (Really?!? Google+?) ect. with links directing users to their website or posts of the EXACT wording of the post we found here with the same photos.... Well I'm sure you could see how it could lead some folks to think that maybe... Just maybe.... It could be a bit of underground digital marketing and not out of the kindness of said persons heart.

I've been wrong before and I'll be wrong again. Feel free to participate in a few post about cooks, share some photos of stuff you've cooked (doesn't have to be on an egg) or otherwise add to the forum and I'll gladly eat some crow. I've heard it's delicious with a light coating of Desperado rub.PigskinBarbeque said:Now this is an article that I have posted on my site but I think it only makes sense for me to repost it here fully rather than ask or expect people from this forum to leave the forum to go to me site and read the article.

ChillyWillis, it's all understandable.
I haven't posted a lot, so that's my fault, but I've asked about brining chicken, shared a slaw recipe and a review of Rufus Teague Sauce.
So I can see where you all are coming from and I apologize if I gave that impression.
I never posted any photos of cooks because I didn't have my BGE yet. I thought folks would question why I'm posting pics if it wasn't on a BGE, but this is good to know.

You can just post whatever. We see posts of @sgh's unit all the time.PigskinBarbeque said:ChillyWillis, it's all understandable.

Hey Pigskin, it's all on your website, how good you are at getting the right exposure for people's products with your reviews, not only on your site with 10k views per month, but also how you're so skilled at posting your reviews on multiple blogs, facebook pages, Google+ accounts, etc. and can drive great exposure to people's products by posting links in your reviews to their websites, social media, etc for the products you review.
I read all of that in your PR Media kit, I think it was below the part where you said reviews are free and above the part where you offer to sell banner advertisements on your website. Sooo, splitting hairs about not posting links to your website?
I see you also have an online store. Good luck to you, but I won't be reading your reviews. You may love BBQ, but you're posting here as part of a marketing strategy to drum up advertisements on your website. I don't appreciate that.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER -
@Legume I didn't even bother reading his website past the copy and paste review. Good eyes my friend... Good eyes.
I think it could be time for an email to Desperado about if this is how they want their product represented. It would be interesting to see what they have to say on the matter.... Or maybe just time to let the thread die....
Edit: Why do I have the feeling I'm going to get the entire Desperado seasoning line in the rub and sauce exchange this year. -
Legume you're assuming too much! non of that is posted anywhere on any post I've shared on here or any social network.
So if you only read my posts, be it a review or a recipe I share here, you would never come across that which you mentioned unless you went directly to my site, and like I said I avoided posting a link to my site. Links posted are to the peoples who product I reviewed and I have no relation to them so I don't make anything for doing so.
to address your questions, reviews are free, and banner spaces are sold if a person wants to do so but it isn't required for a review.
Again my posting here has nothing to do with drumming up advertising for my site. It wouldn't make me a bit of difference if anyone from this forum never visited my site.
I share posts here to share and to have comments and conversations with others who are into BBQ as well. It helps give me ideas on other topic to post about.
So for you to assume I'm trying to do something that I'm not is something I really don't appreciate, and it would please me a ton to have you or anyone with negative vibes avoid my posts at all costs!!!
Thanks.I Smoke -
I figured I'd just go and copy and paste the section that @legume mentioned just to save anyone giving the website any extra page views. The following is an unedited copy and paste:

@PigskinBarbeque you don't seem to get that what you're doing is exactly what we as a community don't want. Someone sent you something for free and then you decide to go out and post your "honest" review on websites that you otherwise don't frequent.
We don't appreciate that.
While I don't necessarily doubt that your review of the product may be valid, the only reason you put it here is because you gained something from it. Also, when confronted about it you could have said something along the lines of "hey I got a free bottle and I liked it" while it may have gotten folks around here to disregard your post a bit it wouldn't have been dishonest. You're digging yourself a bigger hole.
If I were you I'd chalk this one up as a loss and move on.... And I'm hoping for you that you haven't already sent this particular link to the fine folks at Desperado BBQ. I'm guessing they may not appreciate the manor that your viral marketing campaign has painted their product before any of us knew what it was. -
Even if you are on the up and up, surely you can see that it looks fishy?

-
Chilly ill excuse your reading comp, but the link that gets sent to people is the link from my site that goes to the review.
If you took the time to ask a question as oppose to assuming you know everything you might save yourself from looking foolish.
Damn shame!I Smoke -
since you want to play Keystone cop detective maybe you should have taken the time to see the original post for this review is 11 months old, but yall know everything!I Smoke

Dude, 2 of your 6 discussions are not self promotion. Move along....
