Next Purchase: XL or "Another" L?
In all honesty though, this is my #1 hobby and I look at these grills as an investment. So next spring/summer I plan on adding another Egg to the family... The big question is do I go with an XL or another L? I am honestly leaning towards an XL just because, I don't have one, and I like the idea of the bigger grill space. I am big into ribs and the thought of being able to throw down 4-5 full slabs without using a rib-rack (hate them) is very enticing... So what would you guys do in my shoes?

I have an XL. Best thing I have ever done. Currently romancing a MM for times when our children are not home and it is just my SWMBO and I.Get it, it is great for those that like to prepare feasts, as I do."Knowledge is Good" - Emil Faber

Looks like your not going to stop getting eggs, so go with the XL. Won't be long and you'll have as many as @badinfluenceSteven

hmm , cant really offer an informed opinion , I'm happy with three larges. Some say the proportions are wrong the XL, the lids too low etc. But you are the best judge for your needs, so go for it!

@aussie that uses to be the case with the XL when they first came out. BGE has changed the dome on the XL now.
bake to the OP. I would get aaa XXL next. If you plan on having one of every size I would go XXL as before long I don't think they will be making them much longer.1 XXL BGE, 1 LG BGE, 2 MED. BGE, 1 MINI BGE, 1 Peoria custom cooker Meat Monster.Clinton, Iowa -
I would sell that Dodge for an XL

I think you already answered your question. If you are leaning towards the XL then go for it.Which came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

You can never have to much grill space. You have the small quick cooks covered. Now you need the right tool for bigger cooks.

I would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.

I have the XL and love it. I am very happy that I choose it first and want to add a small, but settled with a mini sided type one called the Kahuna to do my small cooks for now. Money is tight and the IRS hurt us pretty good, so a new egg for me may be a while. With an XL, Large and Small you do a lot of different things at one time. I was able to keep my XL this weekend most of the time between 230 and 260 when cooking some ribs on Sunday for 4 hours or so. Sounds like you made up you mind already.XL, WSM, Coleman Road Trip Gas GrillKansas City, Mo.

I've had this same thought for a little bit too if I ever decide to get another big egg to go with the Large and mini. I've been thinking about the XL because at times I could use the extra room of the XL but I keep going back to the large because I will be able to use the accessories I already have in both and the second large will help with space needs as on big cooks most likely I'd be firing both up at the same time. I think the thought of getting a second large or an XL for myself is a fleeting one as I'm getting more and more interested in an insulated vertical smoker setup or a stick burner for doing my long smokes.Large and Mini BGE

I'n convinced @badinfluence is getting BGE kickbacks. Good scare tactic "better get it before they quit making them". JK.badinfluence said:@aussie that uses to be the case with the XL when they first came out. BGE has changed the dome on the XL now.

If you want an XL, then I say go for it. Having said that, I have two lg's. They do everything I need. As far as doing 4-5 racks of ribs at once, you could always get an AR with an extender from CGS for your Lg.

I do not believe the OP would be unhappy with the XL. It is very hard to put 10 pounds in a 5 pound bag.A poor widows son.

@badinfluence you have a better display than many dealers!

I've spent the last month trying to answer that same question. It was difficult because I love my large and, with the AR, I can get a bunch in it. Ultimately, (actually two days ago) I ordered an XL. The bottom line is I can't imagine ever being unhappy I have too much room in my grill. On the other hand, there have been plenty of times I'd have loved a little extra in my large.
As many have said, you can't really go wrong, but if you like more room, I say get the XL.
Good luck.

If they are going to stop making the XXL, all the more reason to not get the XXL. Can't see how you would be able to do a warranty claim if anything cracked.badinfluence said:@aussie that uses to be the case with the XL when they first came out. BGE has changed the dome on the XL now.

The dealer in Billings is a Scheels super store comparable to a Cabela's or Bass Pro. It has a 65ft Ferris-Wheel inside, mini bowl, huge saltwater tank, but only three eggs on display.

@sgh I have no knowledge if they really are going to stop making the XXL but my dealer said they still have not sold all of the 1st production run of 1000. So it was said in jest.1 XXL BGE, 1 LG BGE, 2 MED. BGE, 1 MINI BGE, 1 Peoria custom cooker Meat Monster.Clinton, Iowa

I'm pretty sure my local dealer will sell his XXL at cost. It has sat on the showroom floor for the past year with little to no interest"The pig is an amazing animal. You feed a pig an apple and it makes bacon. Let's see Michael Phelps do that" - Jim Gaffigan

I had initially thought of doing the XXL when I got my XL. Dealer talked me out of it. Looking back it was, by far, the better choice for my needs.
Now I just need a MM. I bought my SWMBO a Luis Vuitton purse while we were in Paris, so I believe the skids have been adequately lubricated for me

Although my eggs are not BGE I can tell you owning all three sizes a 13", 18" and 24" is wonderful. It is a great combo of grills. If you can swing it, I would go with the XL as it will fill a void for longer/larger low and slows, full ribs that won't need to be cut etc. It will also serve as the primary grill for larger gatherings etc!!
This picture was a super bowl party that I hosted. I did ribs on my KJ classic 18", ABTS on the joe jr 13" and I had 5 lbs of wings on the big joe 24".
Sorry, I am not trying to flog a non BGE brand here, just showing the versatility of multiple size cookers. If anyone is bothered I can take the picture down.
