+1 I'll never forget back in grade school in MO in the 50's there was a "farm kid" who sold those complete with a beaded key chain. It was so funny as the girls went crazy and he sold a bunch until a girls's father broke the news what they really were!Wolfpack said:You gonna keep the Arkansas toothpick?

OK, I googled Arkansas toothpick and all I found was a knife. Really cool looking knives. But, I'm thinking there is an inside joke of some sort here. Anyone want to clue those of us not in the know in?RRP said:

As a kid I used to have to eat coon on my grandparents farm as you ate what was killed that day or you went hungry. Now that I'm older I will pass. They were not bad for a scavenger.1 XXL BGE, 1 LG BGE, 2 MED. BGE, 1 MINI BGE, 1 Peoria custom cooker Meat Monster.Clinton, Iowa

meat is meat, but I would guess raccoon taste like bear - they're similar genetically. It's common on the Eastern Shore of Maryland for the locals to eat muskrats. Myself, I don't eat vermin. If you're into eating on the edge of "normal" - raccoon is an interesting choice, omnivorous and not too fatty. Native Americans ate them, as well as it being a cheap source of protein for slaves of the early 19th century. Wiki reports that a raccoon that has fought for its life would be inedible, too much adrenaline I guess.Forget the toothpick, what are you going to do with the skins?

BBQ is a celebration of culture in America. It is the closest thing we have to the wines and cheeses of Europe.
Drive a few hundred miles in any direction, and the experience changes dramatically.
