mangrates - why the hate?

Never seen them in person, in theory they look like an okay idea. But mangrates seem to be really disliked by my fellow eggheads. Just curious why? Honestly don't know why.

I Googled it and looks like a complete waste of money. Now they may make food taste better on a gas grill. Just get a good CI grate and keep it seasoned.XL, WSM, Coleman Road Trip Gas GrillKansas City, Mo.

CI grid. Done and nowhere near the price of the Mangrates. The BGE CI grid works quite nicely imho.LBGE 2013 & MM 2014Die Hard HUSKER & BRONCO FANFlying Low & Slow in "Da Burg" FL

But they make food taste better..........and they're rectangular.

Admittedly, they're a much better bargain than the $10,000, 6' speaker cables sold in Stereophile...

Are Grillgrates the same as the Mangrates?

They are very similar but not exact.

I love my grill grates! Seriously, I do. They put great grill marks on the food, clean up easily, and seem to control flare ups from fat. I did some tri tip last night on them and they were the best I have ever done.Let the flaming begin.

If I were to get some, I'd go with the grillgrates. They actually make them to fit the egg, so you get to maximize the space of the egg for searing on them.

I see know follow up (in either thread) from the eggers who were supposed to get them shipped for a free tryout. Were they received and what was the verdict?LG BGE...PSWOOII-CI...PLATESETTER...THERMAPEN...MAVERICK-ET-733

I for one have always believed in equal opportunity, regardless of sex, race or religion. These items will not get my support until they are renamed PersonGrates. [-XDelta B.C. - Whiskey and steak, because no good story ever started with someone having a salad!

@travisstrick peed on his and keeps them outside to scare off pan-handlers. I don't think @henapple thought too highly of them(I'm pretty sure he got a set).Rabidgoose said:I see know follow up (in either thread) from the eggers who were supposed to get them shipped for a free tryout. I ordered a set from the promo code a while back. I have not even taken them out of the cardboard. They are quite heavy. Message me if you want them. I just don't have a use for them.

I have a set of grill grates on my gasser. No complaints here.Steve

Well that was confusing, steaks looked like they turned out great and then we are told not worth the money without an explanation.SmokeyPitt said:GreggLarge BGE Owner since December of 2013!

@DoofusOfTheDay ...they were sexy but didn't taste any better which is what they claim. I'll send you my set if you don't mind paying the $235 shipping.

Wow, that thread had ten pages. Didn't read them all, but it had some funny stuff. It doesn't look like @Boomer has been active on the forum for awhile. You guys/gals must of ran him off or he's using a different name. Since I didn't read it all, I don't know if anybody informed @boomer that the reason the steaks tasted better was that we taste with our eyes first. I bet a blind man would have a different opinion on what taste best. I'm at work, so I couldn't watch the @henapple review with sound. The big NO at the end was enough for me. I'll just stick to my method.Steven

I am pretty sure Boomer never intended for this to happen. I think his idiot son actually did the posting. Great to see this thread back!
