Blueberry Butt?

Hello all...been viewing posts for sometime but 1st post on the forum... I am looking for a good blueberry pulled pork recipe for the Kickoff classic on Aug 28th. I will be doing two butts (roughly 8lbs each) on large BGE, one will be classic dizzy dust/swamp venom and looking for something exotic on the other. Would like to inject and also rub. Thanks in advance!

I have not seen any reference to blueberry butt on this forum in the past three years. Cobbler, yes. What are the requirements? Or desirements?

Welcome!I just had something similar at my food store last month, it was blackberry. I thought it was a strange combo until I tried it and it was delicious.Aurora,OH

Welcome to the forum. I can sure help you with the pulled pork but not the addition of blueberry. Sorry. Again welcome aboard my friend.

does it need to be pulled. im thinking 325 indirect, cook to 180 internal, slice and drizzle a blueberry port wine sauce over it. google duck and blueberry port sauce, usually pretty simple with just wine blueberries, mustard, jam, maybe some thyme and lemon and some cornstarch or other thickener. goes good with slow cooked duck, why not pork

This is definitely intriguing. Just a couple of things I found on the interweb that sound good:Pulled Pork:This is just what @fishlessman was discussing and it looks excellent. He actually suggest cooking to 145. I guess that should work fine but IMO you would have some fat to cut around prior to serving.Which came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

On a random side note- I like Chef Johns videos but have you noticed he ends every sentence like it's a question???Which came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

looks good to me. ive never sliced a butt so not sure what internal temp to go with, at 180 maybe the slices would need to be thinner.SmokeyPitt said:This is definitely intriguing. In this video he is using a pretty small pork shoulder roast that doesn't appear to have as much fat as a "smoking butt".fishlessman said:

Thanks for the suggestions... it is an interesting combo. I would have never linked the two (pulled pork & blueberry), but my wife and I were eating lunch several years ago in NOLA and she ordered a blueberry pulled pork sandwich. I of course tried some of it, and it was unbelievable. I vowed to try it at some point, and I guess the time is now. I am going to take a little bit of each recommendation and also a few personal touches and see how it goes. I will document with pictures and recipe if anyone wants to try it.Should I start a new thread or continue this one when I make it?

Either way is fine but I would start a new thread just because peeps are more likely to look at it with a title such as "Blueberry Butt Recipe and Pictures"Wckolemiss1 said:Thanks for the suggestions... it is an interesting combo. . Good luck on the recipe. I look forward to seeing the results!Which came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg. -
I would say you could make a blueberry juice and inject it into the butt, not sure what kind of rub you could use with it. Try tasting some spices with blueberries to see which ones go well with them and that could be your rub. Brown sugar, sea salt, pepper, cayenne pepper, paprika might good place to start. Good luck and welcome aboard.XL, WSM, Coleman Road Trip Gas GrillKansas City, Mo.

I did a Google Search for Blueberry Glaze Pork, and Blueberry Pulled Pork came up with a few results. You might find something to you liking there with the recipes.
The one I found that came closest to what you described:

Let us know how it turns out. The wife just froze a bunch of blueberries, and we planted some blueberry bushes this year that are doing well. Don't know how long till the produce, but hope the do something. Another recipe I wanted to try from my search is this Pork Chops with Savory Blueberry Sauce, just egging the chops, not baking them.
