Want a new table, but don't have the skills...

I'm not handy AT ALL, so the thought of building my own table wasn't even possible.

I decided I wanted a table, so I did some research and found a reputable woodworker. IMO, it's cheaper to go to a wood nut, than it is to go to a guy who fabricates tables for the BGE. I think they know what they go for, so they assume you can afford it.  Thoughts?

I thought about this because of @johnkitchens‌ $3700 table post. There also has been a lot of other expensive tables posted that don't really offer that much.

While still expensive, I paid under $2000 for my table and I couldn't be more happy with the purchase.
Just a hack that makes some $hitty BBQ....

I like your table. I also like the $3,700 table if it didn't have the headboard. My cousin here in my town does woodworking, and he has made a lot of cedar tables and furniture.

I am sure that he could make the $3,700 table for me minus the headboard for a lot less than $3,700.

I also agree with you concerning the fact that a wood guy will probably do a better job for less $ than a guy that specializes in making egg tables.

IMO: learn the skills. No one an ever take away knowledge form you.

  • I wish I had it in me, I could do it, but if I'm not a natural at something, I hire someone who is. Unfortunately with that, I don't have the deepest pockets, well maybe they are a little deep, but I sure as hell spend way more than I should, lol. So with that, I will wait until one falls off the back of a truck as it drives past my house. Fingers crossed!

    +1 @cazzy‌ & @Jeremiah‌
I have the skills but, specialty tools such as a CNC plasma cutter I do not. I didn't want a run of the mill table and I wouldn't settle on anything less than SS. So, I asked a guy who does all my welding on mufflers etc and he recommended a fella that he trusts. I met up with him and developed a game plan and price agreement. He had never done anything in regards to an egg table but, the results were perfect and I am very happy with it.

I built this table earlier this year. It has concrete counter tops and adequate storage below for my mini and accessories and should hold up well in the elements. It's nothing special, but I have less than $350 invested. It's not going anywhere since it weighs between 700-800 pounds.

Any road will take you there if you don't know where you're going.

I don't have the skills to do it. I have access to a CNC Plasma cutter, machine shop, and fab shop at no charge, but I still prefer wood when it comes to a table.

  • @johnkitchens I have a buddy that does a lot of restaurant equipment sales and re-supplies.  Every now and then he gets gently used SS tables with lower shelves.  If I can get my hands on some, I might place a call to you and make a few hour road trip!!!

@SGH that looks pretty good for a table that gets more action than a two for one table dance at the strip club.

Cazzy- that table is quite beautiful. I picked up my buddy's used large so I'm having a dual made for my large small combo. Guy on Craigslist in tampa makes them for about 2-250 out of cypress and oils them. Wheels and all. If that thing lasts, it will be my only table. If it starts to falter, I'll take the measurements to a professional wood worker and have the come up with something more elegant and classy such as yours. For the time being in my townhouse, my table and eggs will be subject to the elements. Wouldn't want to leave a table that gorgeous or spendy outside all the time especially with the amounts of rain we get here in Florida
