My favorite meal

Nothing beats a plate full of wings. Except a plate full of wings and tots!!

Seasoned up with JH Texas Chicken Tickler and DP Firewalk. Cooked indirect with the plate setter (yes, I do use my plate setter occasionally) at 400F, basted with Frank's wing sauce. Why I had two bottles of wing sauce when I always make my own? I have no idea. Must have been on sale or I had a coupon or something. Or Mrs. G bought it. Still scratching my head on that one.

Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, no tots were harmed in this cook. :( Not on the diet again for awhile. Damn diabetes is back. The good news is I'm down to my high school weight and down 2 pant sizes. :)

Those look fantastic. I'm impressed by the quality of the cooks you post AND the fact that you're still down 2 pant sizes. I need to figure out that balance.

Shucks, sorry about the health news. Unfortunately, diabetes never "goes away".

Were you diagnosed with true diabetes or impaired glucose tolerance?

If you are maintaining good diet control and exercising, great! One other thing though(which I guarantee you've heard more than once): QUIT SMOKING. Smoking increases your risk of developing diabetes by up to 40% and makes BS sugar levels harder to control. There is causal data showing this and it's now recognized in the latest Surgeon General report.

    Lastly,
    great looking wings!

Thanks guys. @bodski we've been eating a lot healthier lately (which is why I haven't been posting much. Boring chicken and shrimp and stuff), but I attribute the weight loss to Type II diabetes coming back. Same thing happened around this time last year.

@Eggcelsior doc said it was Type II. Going back on the primal diet, have sworn off whiskey and Cokes and other hard liquors. No more drinking during the week. And just bought one of those e cigarette things. Gonna ween myself off of nicotine altogether. Next, I need to pull out my bike, dust it off and air up the tires and get going on that. I kicked diabetes ass last year, but then lapsed on the lifestyle changes, making home made bread, making pizzas once a week, drinking way too much. Not gonna happen again. Gonna make it stick this time.

I thought chicken fried backstrap was your favorite meal??

Wings look good! Your threads always remind me the I still haven't tried the Chicken Tickler rub.

And + 1 for what @Eggcelsior said. Losing weight and quitting smoking are the 2 best things you can do for yourself.

    Great looking wangs!

Sounds like when you put your mind to something you can dominate it.  Way to go.  I too follow the primal/paleo diet as much as possible.  If eating healthy is "boring" and not worthy of pictures, then call me boring.  I would love to still see your "healthy" pictures.  No reason we can't share recipes and cooks just because they are healthy.  Everyone can benefit from them.

Here is what I had last night,

You are right. CF backstrap is probably my favorite, but just barely. OR CFS done right for that matter. But if I have those, I want a big ole heaping of mashed taters or fries smothered in gravy with some biscuits or rolls and that ain't happening.

I think I'm getting to the point where losing any more weight might not be a good thing...

I'll admit the other reason I haven't been posting a lot has been because I have been messing around with an old hobby again.

A hobby store just opened up near the house and then they built an offroad track in the field behind them. It's restored my interest in the hobby. I'll run my trucks or tinker around with them, trying to dial in the settings or fix what I broke and before I know it, its dinner time and I haven't planned anything and I have to whip something up together real fast. Anybody else into RCs?

@griffin I used to be into RC....haven't played around with it much in a few years.  I still have about a dozen cars and trucks, electric (brushed and brushless) and nitro.  Plus a couple boats, 5 or 6 helicopters and a few planes.  I have some computer chargers and boxes and boxes of spare parts, motors, engines and batteries.  Fun hobby.  Can get expensive if you let other people "drive" your stuff (hint - they will crash it every time).  Also have a cool quadcopter that is controlled via smart phone with cameras.

I have an E-Maxx like yours too.

@nolaegghead I've got a bunch of trucks laying around and my first on-road car is enroute as we speak. Can't wait. half the fun for me is building them and tinkering with them. And you are right, they can get expensive. Off the top of my head, I have:

    Traxxas E-maxx (3906 original version)

    Traxxas 2 wheel drive slash

    TA B4 buggy

    Tamiya Juggernaut II (heavily modified)

    Tamiya Hummer

    Tamiya Midnight Pumpkin

    Kyosho Ultimate Outlaw Stadium Truck

and in pieces a Blackfoot and Striker that I am rebuilding for my brother for a 40th b-day present (he has no idea I still have his frist RC and I'm fixing it for him)

@nolaegghead, what kind of quad? I looked at getting one(hexa) with a camera mount for some beach shots I was thinking about.

Then I realized I could get a few lenses that I want for those prices.

@griffin - Sounds like you're all-in.  The road cars are fun too, especially if you have some good smooth road.  I've hit a tiny bump at 60mph and launched the car 50 feet.

I'll have to take some pics and post them.

    @eggcelsior AR Drone 2.0.  I think I got it from 1sale.com for $199.  Aren't any lenses I want under 200.

I was looking at something for my full-frame. The hexacopter frame and gimbal mount was getting near 2k. There are a few I'd like at that price.

The boat I Just got about two days ago, I usually run out in my street when I have nothing else to do. The kid across the street has a electric car so I like to go out and race him up and down the street.

@nolaegghead, I have a 6D. I also have a t3i that I wanted to use for some video on it.

6D on occasion. Because wide angle. Because reasons.

@eggcelsior I almost bought a 6D but my photographer buddy told me to get a 5D II with a low frame count.  He shoots for the Times Picayune and is always in the middle of the crazy sh*t du jour.  He shot this.

Why? Cost? IN head to head reviews, the 6D is an upgrade over the MkII in almost every way with the exception of the memory card and better body(6D is plastic on top for GPS and Wifi).

Mine was a gift. I'm not complaining either way but nearly every review I have ever read goes for the 6D.(Especially low light performance)

@Eggcelsior - he said many of his photographer friends like the 5Ds because they're proven durable.  These guys abuse their gear.  I found a used 5D with an extremely low frame count (virtually new) for around $1300, which was less than I could get a 6D for.  That gives me more money for lenses.  I already have a few lenses because my old camera is a 10D.
