I put mine on the spring clip that holds the dome thermometer ,it works good for me yeah it's not the temp of the grill it is the dome temp but I haven't had a problem on any of my cooks2 Large Eggs and a Mini 2 Pit Bulls and a Pork shoulder or butt nearby and 100% SICILIANLong Island N.Y.

I usually clip mine to the stem of the dome thermometer.SBGE December 2012 • XLBGE December 2013 • Yoder YS640 JulyLocation: Jasper, Georgia

humm...interesting, I never thought about going up there...I always clip to the grate and try to go as close to the food as possible...do you guys come down thru the top vent then?Making the neighbors jealous in Pleasant Hill, Ia one cook at a time...

No I don't I run the wire out the side between the dome and base and I don't have any leakage the gasket forms around the wire and makes a good seal2 Large Eggs and a Mini 2 Pit Bulls and a Pork shoulder or butt nearby and 100% SICILIANLong Island N.Y.

I clip mine about an inch away from the meat. Generallys more towards the back of the Egg than the front.

+1 for clipping to dome therm stem, it has a better chance of getting the 'average' temperature? At grate level, especially when crowded or blocked by big hunks of meat, the probe could be in a hot path or dead pocket?canuckland

Clip to the grid, over a setter leg positioned at about 3 o'clock, run the cable out between the dome and base gaskets. To start a cook, dome is always higher by 30-50º, within 2-3 hours they are very close.Delta B.C. - Whiskey and steak, because no good story ever started with someone having a salad!

Where do you stick your probe?Mike_the_BBQ_Fanatic said:Doing a couple low and slow shoulders today...monitorng remotely with the cyber q and the pit pal app (first time for the app, but I kind of like the tracking piece) Seeing some temp fluctuatons in the pit...got me thinking ... Where do you guys place your grate probe?Sorry, I couldn't resist...SBGE December 2012 • XLBGE December 2013 • Yoder YS640 JulyLocation: Jasper, Georgia

I drop it down the daisy wheel hole and pull it out or slide it in until the temp matches closely to the temp of the Egg's dome thermometer. I'm used to setting the Egg by the dome temp anyway, so I'm not concerned about the grate temp.
I like my butt rubbed and my pork pulled.

Same as Skiddymarker. Clipped to the grill, over a plate setter leg and running out between the cover and base (with a gasket).Madison, CTLBGE June 2013.

Does it make a difference if you Clip it let's say at the 9, 6 or 3 o'clock position versus clipping it towards the back?XL bge, Mini max & 36 BS Griddle.

What if you are using a round pizza stone on an ar, then where. Also, do you wrap your wire with foil for protection?

I asked the same thing from the guy that owns BBQGuru...
@TheShaytoon Or I remove my dome therm and dangle the probe above the meat through the hole
@TheShaytoon Heat tends to collect in the dome. I clip my pit probe to the bend of my meat probe. Keeps it close to meat but out of way

I think as long as you are over the plate setter you are good. I mostly go by the dome, but monitor the grate inside to make sure I am stableXLBGE, Small BGE, Homebrew and GuitarsRochester, NY

I knew this one was gonna go south. I stayed out of it to take the high road. Just like I did on this one.

I find that it matters not so much where you stick your probe, but more that you pull it out in time."I've made a note never to piss you two off." - Stike

Agreed. Bread on the egg is much better than a bun in the oven.JohnInCarolina said:I find that it matters not so much where you stick your probe, but more that you pull it out in time.
