1st Year with the Egg-Ultra Mega Ginormous Picture Post

Earlier in August marked my first year anniversary using the BGE. To say it has changed my grilling life is an understatement. This last year has been far and away my best year ever grilling. Things kept improving over the last year too and the culmination of of this will be my trip to the Eggtoberfest in Atlanta this fall. I am making a huge picture post which represents less than 25 percent of what I have done on my Egg. The versatility of this grill is amazing. I am cooking foods on my Egg that I never imagined making.

I will share a story I find amusing related to the arrival of my new Egg last August. The Egg came a week early. The dealer had a cancellation and they called me to see if it was ok if they delivered mine a week early. That was a no-brainer. So when my wife got home from work that night she walked right by me grilling on this odd shaped green grill, and didn't notice anything new. When I brought in the spatchcocked chicken she noticed a difference right away. She said OMG three times and said this was the juiciest, most tender chicken she had ever tasted. The next night same drill. She walked by the new grill and didn't notice, but she declared it to be the best steak she had ever tasted. This went on for a week. I didn't tell her the Egg had arrived ealry just to see if she'd eventually notice it. She never noticed the grill itself, but after a week she said: "OK what is going on? You cook great meals on the grill but all of a sudden everything you make is the best I've ever had. How did you suddenly up your game?" This is when I pointed out the window and said my Big Green Egg was delivered a week early.

OK onto the pictures. This represents just under 25 percent of what I have cooked on my Egg and it is still a ton of photos. I am sizing them at 640x480 which is smaller than I usually post and will need to spread it across several messages. I wanted to show the versatility of the Egg. Many of these pictures I've posted here, but they should be new to some folks. I hope I haven't crossed the line for what is too much food porn. Oh and I'd like to thank the great guys and gals here for all the great advice and all of their positive feedback to my picture posts.

My grill setup August 02, 2012. My new LBGE and my horizontal offset barrel smoker & 6 burner gas grill. I never used the smoker again and I used the gasser to grill corn twice when my Egg was tied up doing something else. Now that I have two Eggs I realy don't need the gasser. I also was using a 10'x10' EZ-Up shelter and my Black & Decker workmate for a counter.

1 year later I have a 10'x10' grill gazebo with lighting and outdoor furniture made for the Egg.

You are the man @jfm0830 I knew you wouldn't regret getting an Egg. You've cooked many a fine meal on it and I for one am glad you've shared them with us.

I still remember you posting that picture of the steak and you went to cut it and the electricity went out so you shot the picture in the dark with a flash. That was a cool picture.

Thanks so much guys! For someone who is into this hobby having an Egg is the ultimate, but why I am I telling you this.

@Griffin Yeah I remember that too. I knew the steak tasted great, but I had to see the finished pictures to see the doneness inside. I also remember my weather app Dark Sky saved my bacon that day. It showed I had 20 minutes before the rains came. I just got in the door from grilling the steak and before the screen door finished shutting I heard this woosh sound. It was a wall of water. I have never seen it rain that hard. I couldn't see my neighbors house 300 feet away across the street. As you mentioned the lights went out and that happened just as I was pulling some steak fries out of the oven.

@grego careful what you wish for:

Nice, I will have the Scotch eggs for breakfast, the Panini for lunch and a thick slice of that herb crusted prime rib for dinner. Make sure you look me up at the eggtoberfest, I will be at the meet and greet as well.

Dude, that was amazing!  I've had my LBGE for about 2 weeks so you have definitely inspired me to get busy!!!!  I also really liked your presentations.  Something about the square white plates just made the contrasting colors of the food pop, and added a flair of elegance.  Nice touch!

@R3K  Thanks and Congrats on your new LBGE. You are in for an amazing ride!! There basically are not limits to what you can make on it. I went to the NewEgglandfest in June and I was amazed at the wide variety of food people were cranking out on their Eggs even though I should know better by now.

Thanks for all of the additional comments. If it is any consolation: the pictures make me hungry too, probably moreso because I can imagine exactly what everything tastes like.

@biznork That is a Weber large stainless steel fish basket. I feel it has several advantages over the Half Moon flex basket from the Mothership. If you are interested in learning more about it and some lessons I learned using it, I wrote a blog on my website:

I can't believe you've done all of this in one year.  That just blows me away.  I've done copycat versions of a lot of cooks from this forum, but now I realize that a good deal of them are straight from the cooks you've posted. From your cowboy ribeye, to the Scotch Egg...they were all delicious.  Apparently you're my BGE hero.

Credit given where credit is due.  You're the man, Jim.  Happy 1st anniversary!

This type of thread should be banned immediately. I now need a new monitor and keyboard from all the licking and drooling, SWMBO is gonna be pissed when I show up with a boatload of meats I want to cook now (freezers are already packed with stuff), and my bucket list of things to cook just got even longer!

Just kidding :) I'm bookmarking this thread for inspiration.
