Cypress table care

I'm about to head out and pick up my egg, along with the cypress table. I'm wanting to prevent my table from being discolored from drippings and the likings. From my understand the best remedy for me to achieve this would be:
1.) Sand the top - question what should I use?
2.) Danish oil - with or without wax
3.) Butcher's paste wax (what's this?) while sandpapering and steel wool between coats.
Is this correct?

Here's what I did:1. Sand with very fine sand paper, wipe it down with damp towel to remove dust and let it dry.2. Apply a coat of Spar Urethane (I used Helmsman Indoor/Outdoor Clear Gloss) and let it dry completely (4 to 6 hours maybe longer)3. Repeat steps 1 and 24. Should give it 3 or 4 total coats, worked great on my cypress table

I agree exactly with what sarsgard said.
If you really want it to last a long time, take the table apart and give all the sides that treatment so the wood is completely encapsulated with paint. You can probably get away with two coats on the vertical and underneath surfaces that don't get sun or standing water. Then re-assemble the table using weather resistant screws. That's a big improvement over the staples they use.

Beautiful table. Mine is really simple (and really large). I saturated the top with marine epoxy before applying the spar. It still looks like new over 6 months later.

You look like you have a great set up!! Love the table. I did apply the spar all over the table, top and bottom, but to lazy to take it apart. I will probably add an additional coat when the weather begins to warm up a bit.

My suggestion is DO NOT BUY THE TABLE. Mine is a year old and falling apart. Waste of money. I put a spar urethane on it and it still rotted from the inside out. Started turning black and then got real soft. Build your own. Cheaper and better quality.
