Cypress table care

I'm about to head out and pick up my egg, along with the cypress table.  I'm wanting to prevent my table from being discolored from drippings and the likings.  From my understand the best remedy for me to achieve this would be:

1.) Sand the top - question what should I use?

2.) Danish oil - with or without wax

3.) Butcher's paste wax (what's this?) while sandpapering and steel wool between coats.

Is this correct?
