Enough of the OT posts

Love this forum but there are soooooooo many OT posts. Am I in the minority here? Honestly, I feel we would be a far better forum if they were NOT permitted. What do you all think?

You are welcome to post some cooks.

I hear you @Zick and as @DoubleEgger just suggested please feel free to post some pictures and dialogues about your recent or most memorable egg cooks. It seems like the OT posts come and go in waves. Then besides that while this forum is not a clique many of us have been around for long enough that we feel like family and act like it.

Personally, I like the OT stuff. Live and let live. One can only read so many threads about pork butt. The OT threads are generally clearly labelled as such, so I’m not sure I get the issue with those. I don’t think absolutely everything on this forum has to be cooking-related. Your profile photo and your fantasy football post agree. 😉

Just read the stuff you want, ignore the rest. It looks like you're averaging maybe 15 posts per year, so...post some more, comment on the things you like, be a more active part of the community. This comes up from time to time and without wanting to be rude, it's often from someone that is more reader than contributor. There are a lot of bbq and even green egg forums out there, Facebook, reddit, etc. and they all have different levels of moderation and tolerance. If there's a topic you are more interested in, want to learn more about, start a thread.Love you bro!

Been sometime since I've seen a baked Alaska post....anybody, 500f dome?fukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it

99% of my posts are full cooks with photos so I'm generally in agreement. I use OT posts when I cook something non-egged. I find there are enough talented cooks here to help me up my game in the kitchen and away from the BGE.Plymouth, MN

If there weren’t OT posts here, we’d have about 3 valid threads per month. At least the OT posts, such as the one you created, serves as click bait to keep us entertained and coming back. 😆

OT posts are much needed IMHO. I came for the BBQ, I stayed for the politics and OT 🤷♂️____________________Entrepreneurs are simply those who understand that there is little difference between obstacle and opportunity and are able to turn both to their advantage. •Niccolo Machiavelli

surprised no one has said this used to be a much foodlier place

The true OT threads live on in the OT Forum section. There you can truly "have at it."
The OT threads here generally cover topics of interest to many members that are of real value and would get lost if posted where many don't venture over in the OT Forum. And as @Dyal_SC noted, the great majority of the OT threads here give life to the main forum. FWIW-Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. -

Lol…I appreciate all the opinions. I have been around a long time and am more of a reader and private commenter but have seen this site lose many of the active community over the years. I just personally feel the OT is very unnecessary. Obviously one can just scroll by as I have for a decade but it now reads way more OT then actual cook advice etc. for those that don’t care for my photo, I can’t help you are not an expert in fine culture. Carry on my fellow Eggers just wanted to hear your opinion. So far most of you enjoy the OT stuff. When was the last time you did something for the first time? - Zick Boulder, CO

The overall layout and archaic interface impacts the site traffic more than OT posts. I only hang around because the OT stuff, that is why people are available at 3am to help when your cook is going sideways.
It is hard to find anything older than 10 posts due to the landing page setup. If this was all pork shoulder and brisket cooks I would have bounced a long time ago. That stuff gets really really boring. The fermentation threads, salsa threads, dry aging, and all the technique and cool equipment threads are the best. Those keep us entertained and around to help the newer folks.Maybe your purpose in life is only to serve as an example for others? - LPL

just counting, 6 of the last 30 threads currently posting are non bge related and the what-are-you-chef-ing-tonight-dr thread has 9.8k comments which are mostly cooking threads. that thread alone really boosts the cooking column for being highly related to this forum. granted there are a few ot comments in most threads. that one thread sucks up most of the cooking here in one place and alot of those cooks are really top notch, something you wont see in a strictly bbq forum but this is not just a bbq forum.....the egg for most of us was a starting point to expand our cooking knowledge, a place that started a journey

It obviously can ebb and flow at times, but I generally like the ratio of cooks and food-related content to unrelated topics and/or hijinks. My only complaint is that traffic seems to have decreased and we don't hear enough from or at all from some of the former regulars. Thanks to all of you who make this site what it is and in my rotation.Stillwater, MN

I'm angry about all of the crappy pics. We just can't accept crappy pictures, we need people to buy new phones or cameras (see what are you buying now) slip on down to the local community center or junior college or camera store for a quick lesson if needed.
You know who you are.Love you bro! -
