Broken Daisy Wheel DFMT: Can it be repaired?
JDR
Posts: 8
I dropped my cast iron daisy wheel DFMT on concrete and broke off one of the ears/wings of the base segment which attach to the handle. Any suggestions on how to repair this? I'd rather repair than replace if I could

JB Weld would be my best guess. Or drill a hole and use a small eye bolt. When @fishlessman pops in he might be able to offer some ideas.South of Columbus, Ohio.

I've also got an XL which has the more modern reggulator. If there are no reliable repairs, I'd definitely be interested in a replacement daisy wheel from that era if anyone has one.

Probably not worth the effort if there is a decent repair. Either get the Smokeware cap and upgrade or post up your location. There’s someone here that got one laying around after upgrading, I do.Jacksonville FL

Drilling in the top and adding an eye bolt or is the best idea. In a rush to use mine when it happened during a cook I just deformed the handle to be a loop with both ends going through the same hole and fairly soon after found a replacement DFMT.

Could try to powder torch it. It's an old technique but I've used it with success in the machine shop. I doubt you have one hanging on the wall though. But it's the thought that counts. Kudos on the offer above!

amazon has them. the gift one is a better offer it would cost twice that much if a weld shop fixed it, probably more at my shop to make it look right

If you only broke the ear that hold the handle I don't see the problem. It will cook the same. I have several eggs and I never remove the cast iron top.
@ikapigian that's a very generous offer.XLBGE, LBGE, MBGE, SMALL, MINI, 2 Kubs, Fire Magic Gasser -
I really appreciate all the input. I did take @lkapigian up on his very kind and generous offer.Purely informational question only: For @wooderson and @fishlessman : I have no knowledge whatsoever of how to weld stuff, but from my cursory review of the internet (all caveats included), if one were to try to repair this, would powder torching or some type of brazing technique be better? If it helps here's the actual piece:
