Lid Won’t Stay Up; What to Do?
Mass. Wine Guy
Posts: 32
I have a large Egg. Recently, the lid stopped staying up. I don’t know much about maintenance on these, but I tried tightening the bolts in back. But after one or two times the lid started dropping again. What’s wrong and how can I fix it?
Thank you very much.

If you have some photos it may help. Probably an issue with a spring.

Ok, thank you. Will do.

I had the same problem not too long ago. Just tighten up your hinge bolts
-
I’ve tightened all the bolts on the back hinges. It doesn’t fix it for long.
-
Still wasn’t staying up. And today I noticed this. I don’t know when those bolts came out and they’re nowhere to be found. How can I repair this?:
-
Call your dealer or HQ. They can get you some new bolts.
-
you also might need a band kit. just a thought~~

Looks to me those bolts snapped! Look inside the holes, they are plugged!
If that is the end of the bolt ... you'll need to drill those out.
You could take one of the remaining bolts on the other side of the band and bring it to a hardware store to find the right thread, size, length.Napoleon Prestige Pro 665, XL BGE, Lots of time for BBQ! -

Thank you. I hadn’t noticed that. I’m almost ready to put it in Craigslist for $200 and be rid of it. PK Grill looks like a terrific product.

Looks like they may have corroded, I'd replace all of them. BGE sells a kit for that . . .

Judging by the pictures I'd say you got your money's worth on the metal pieces

Loosen the top band. Remove the top. Loosen the bottom band and replace the special bolts that you get from BGE.
The $200 offer still stands. BTW I'm in SoCal.XLBGE, LBGE, MBGE, SMALL, MINI, 2 Kubs, Fire Magic Gasser -
For $200 it’s local pickup only. But I haven’t decided yet.

Fix the egg, buy the PK and see which one you like better. Or keep both.A broken clinch stud shouldn’t be the dealbreaker on the egg. That feels like an emotional decision.I may be off base with my statement, but it seems like people who buy a PK don’t use it very much after the new wears off of it.

The definitely aren’t the same animal. PK has its uses. Lemme see you low and slow a pair of butts on it or a 12# whole packer

fukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it

You probably broke them while hefting on the hing. I’d go with the new hinge anyway, it doesn’t open quite as far but it’s a much better designSouth of Columbus, Ohio.

I’ll consider if I know how to do the work. Can’t be too tough.

My buddy is an ER trauma doc. He says you wouldn’t believe the amount of cases that come in for the steel rod that won’t bend. Only cure is a local pain block and 2 18 gauge needles to the kickstand. He says most pass out from watching lol
