Cold smoke with smoke tube

Some years back I tried using a smoke stick in my BGE and it always snuffed out. So this past week while jumping in rabbit holes on YouTube, I found a video that explained how the charcoal fires in Komodo grills snuff out the smoke sticks. (Problem explained). However, he suggested doing a cold smoke before lighting the charcoal and claimed it made a difference. Anyone know anything about a cold smoke, or better yet, has anyone tried this technique?

I have used the A-Maze-N smoker tube in my egg often. I empty it out and put tube on bottom of egg, usually get about 90 min of smoke.XLBGE, LBGE, Charbroil Gas Grill, Weber Q2000, Old Weber Kettle, Rectec RT-B380, Yeti 65, Yeti Hopper 20, RTIC 20, RTIC 20 Soft Side - Too many drinkware vessels to mention.

Just Vote- What if you could choose "none of the above" on an election ballot? Millions of Americans do just that, in effect, by not voting. The result in 2016: "Nobody" won more counties, more states, and more electoral votes than either candidate for president. -
I use the Amazin tray. I found it’s the quality of the pellets if it snuffs out. If they get damp….game over~ John - https://www.instagram.com/hoosier_egger

I have cold smoked tri tip with asmoke tube at an angle. I use a mix of post oak and pecan. I have a Kickash basket and can, remove the basket and just lean the tubes in the can.current: | Large BGE | Genesis 1000 | Genesis E330 | 22 inch Kettle | Weber Summit Kamado

Not sure if Cen-Tex’s link addresses this, but I first had issues with my A-Maze-N snuffing out until I learned to let the pellets burn with a flame for several minutes before extinguishing the flame and allowing the pellets to smoulder. Once I modified my approach on this point, I never had another issue.

If I wanted smoke pellets burning in conjunction with the lump fire, I'd forego the tube altogether and just scatter the pellets across the lump.___________"When small men begin to cast big shadows, it means that the sun is about to set."
