According to google, our highest federal income tax bracket is 37% and that is for married making over 693K a year.  Does that sound right @Ozzie_Isaac?
Yes, 37% and for 2024 that is for joint income over $731K. You only pay that on the portion that bumps over that threshold after deductions and other CPA gyrations.  The real kick in the heuvos is self-employment tax of 15.3% on top of the 37%.  So in theory you could be paying 52.3%.

I am not anywhere near that bracket, but it is a goal.

I heard a saying yesterday that really rang true:  Being rich is easier than being poor, but harder than being fine.

(This excludes being generationally wealthy, I think generational wealth would be pretty easy life, and would love to give it a try.)

The real crime is what generational wealth is taxed at in the US.
Indeed.  Essentially zero.  Then it just compounds essentially tax free forever.  That is what will cause the downfall of the US.  The divide will become so great that the poor realize that will never be them.  Right now it is still almost within grasp that we think we have a chance, so we don’t curtail it thinking we will just hurt our future selves.

Minor correction, Ontario's HST is 13%
Housing wise Toronto and Buffalo are not on level playing field, otoh I heard a couple (our son's friends) that moved to somewhere nicer than Buffalo, had a house custom built for way cheaper than here. Not sure about their income situation, the guy is a doctor.

A chart below from that StatsCan study confirms a pet peeve of mine...
Highest percentage of emigrants are folks that immigrated as Investors or Entrepreneurs, probably with no intention of staying at the get go. I'm no tax expert and stand corrected, apparently they can somehow enjoy non-resident status for income tax purpose and pay no tax on income from sources outside Canada. I'm wondering if many of these folks are the ones that demand the Canadian government to bail them out when they face political or humanitarian crisis abroad, not to mention free health care down the road or sooner.

Speaking of health care, recall this Mangrates I bought a while back? The seller is ex US military with Canadian wife, they relocated from VA to GWN because their child has a medical condition that needs ongoing treatment.

I think Alaskan’s calculus here is that while nobody goes there because they don’t want to hear our views on random sh!t, they definitely will want to hear *his* views on random sh!t.
It is a pain to get to.  I prefer convenience.  The extra clicks just aren't worth the hassle.  Plus, nobody new gets to see the fun stuff and lurkers and noobs miss out.  That is why I like the main forum.  Open that robe for all the world to see.
Even better, why don’t we all just start posting cr@p like this in the WAYDRN thread?

That was harsh, calling my forum engagement crap. I don't think this reddit thread is particularly offensive to anyone.
Does something need to be offensive to qualify as crap?   It's crap compared to some solid recipes for Canadian bacon, which can be delicious when properly made.  Plus, you just admitted to casually trolling Canadians...

And I am the one trolling Canadians?

Damn! There I was back on that warranty tread fighting windmills and wondering why no one was bothering to agree or take me to task for my opinion! Guess the Buffalo had bigger fish to spear…huh?
