I had no idea, the comments make me not want to pick on Canada anymore.

Meh. A bunch of <35yo's whining on reddit.
Nearly every one one of those comments mentions higher salaries in the US (mostly for IT type jobs, which are very "pink slip-able"), without mentioning all the other expenses that go with it. Anyone who thinks healthcare in the US is the gold standard (from a policy perspective) needs to step back from their beer for a moment. The $$ signs look great, but there's a high price to pay.
Not one of those comments mentions the absolute shite-hole we are in politically Or, the fact that you are far more likely to get shot on this side (as a school kid!), than in Canada.
Some years ago, I gave serious thought to donating combat tourniquets to caliprince's daycare, after he told us about an active shooter drill they had there. If that doesn't break your heart, I don't know what will.
Reading about the Stop the Bleed campaign made me consider it. Some context:

I'd gladly take a salary cut, and pay more for housing (which are the main gripes in the reddit thread referenced above). Too old, and lazy, to emigrate now. Took me this long to figure out how things work on this side.#1 LBGE December 2012 • #2 SBGE February 2013 • #3 Mini May 2013A happy BGE family in Houston, TX. -
I don't care which country or city subreddit it is you're going to find many threads that are pretty much the same sort of bitching and moaning about how "life in "x" sucks and things in "xx" are much better and I'm moving there as soon as I can". As the saying goes, the grass is always greener on the other side.
It's funny tho to see so many in that Canada thread think that life will be easy and they can double their salaries and afford a place to live in such places as Seattle, San Francisco, NYC while the folks in those subs complain about how outrageous rents are.

Really thought this would be about breakfast choices, maybe even smoked meats given it’s posted on the main forum."I've made a note never to piss you two off." - Stike

Back on topic, it was pretty funny to me to read all these comments from Canadians who apparently view the US as some kind of utopia. Especially given how much bitching and moaning we seem to hear every day about how awful things are and how lousy the economy is. Sounds like we’re maybe doing pretty well. Who knew?"I've made a note never to piss you two off." - Stike -

I live in Canada 45min away from Buffalo, NY. The average home in the GTA is $1.1m vs half that in the nicer neighborhood's outside of Buffalo (my wife grew up in Clarence Center). My marginal tax rate last year of employment was 48%, everything I buy has HST costing 14% and there are normal things like property tax etc
I worked in high tech so employment is based where those firms have head offices / major campuses. There is not comparable employment roles and or income 45min south so any fantasy about moving to the US for what would be lower taxes like Florida doesn’t really apply as the jobs are in California where the taxes aren’t as significantly cheaper and the cost of living to be less than an hour from work is higher
i have a family member with chronic leukaemia, kids or parents who have needed hospital visits which cost $0 for the ambulance and care provided
our news media is government owned, subsidized and or regulated so there is hardly any coverage that’s not overshadowed by global events. While almost every Canadian bemoans the government’s inefficiency, higher taxes and or general execution against campaign promises nobody organizes to do anything about it as complaining at work to a coworker over a cup of Timmie’s wins out every time -

I really don’t give a sh!t one way or the other. I would be perfectly fine with people posting whatever they want, wherever they want. I was just needling Alaskan because I knew exactly what he was doing and why and it’s fun to irritate him."I've made a note never to piss you two off." - Stike -
I am casually trolling Canadians, and the only one who responded didn't open himself up to further scrutiny. I about spit my coke zero out when I read that your income tax is 48% @unoriginalusername ? plus 14% sales tax? did I read that right?

According to google, our highest federal income tax bracket is 37% and that is for married making over 693K a year. Does that sound right @Ozzie_Isaac?

That was harsh, calling my forum engagement crap. I don't think this reddit thread is particularly offensive to anyone.

I am not anywhere near that bracket, but it is a goal.
I heard a saying yesterday that really rang true: Being rich is easier than being poor, but harder than being fine.
(This excludes being generationally wealthy, I think generational wealth would be pretty easy life, and would love to give it a try.)

if your a person who tithes first fruits you’re living off 28% remaining of your annual income including the tax on purchases …. Nuts -

Canadians are conspicuously absent on this thread. Just confirming their reputation of being polite, I suppose. 😂
C’mon now OP; it’s not even Friday. -
