I have caller ID for a reason…simply if I don’t know the caller then don’t bother me as I WILL NOT answer the call! Today I received 19…yes I counted them …calls most of which were supposedly from the east coast, west coast, Washington DC plus supposedly from cities here in our state. Even the funny part was most of the morning ones were timed exactly 30 minutes apart like it was posted  on some reward list!

Know what I mean??? AND pease don’t CALL me with your answer,
 B) ..as I will NOT answer but I just wondered if anyone else was being harassed as well.

I get calls a few times a day asking if I want solar panels.

I also get a number asking if I want to sell my house.  I say every time: Send me an offer.  I have yet to get an offer.

I seem to get about a dozen of these calls every damn day, Ron.  Half of them want to know if I’ve heard about the latest self-employed health insurance, half of them are political groups asking for money, and the other half are fans wanting to know if my porn career is really over (left the business more than 20 years ago).

so with the old phone service, calls travelled over dedicated lines and therefore one could tell where a call originated from..

enter the new age of VOIP calls and SIP trunking. Basically, making calls over data lines, eliminating the need for dedicated phone service lines

in a nut shell what is happening, is "spoofers" are changing their information on the outgoing header (creating a SIP HMR [header manipulation rule] to fool the phone company and you..is it illegal..yup..do law enforcement really police it?..nope..not unless crimes are being committed to a mass audience..

there are attempts for the carriers to go deeper into the SIP message and make sure the HMR isn't being manipulated (google Stir / Shaken for more info)..its costly and screws up the timing of completing calls..meaning good calls aren't being let through because of the timer settings in the packet..

    its a mess..

I got on the CDCs call list to do a survey about childhood vaccinations. It came through from a CDC number. I figured if I ignored them they'd give up. Three months and a hundred or so calls later I took their survey.

I get letters in the mail with cash offers for 2,000 a acre. I wonder if that actually works. Maybe I should mail letters to my neighbors..

We had one farmer move into the neighborhood and left a note on my mailbox. It read something along the lines of, Looking to rent farmland, purchase farmland, also offer custom farming and harvesting.
Read the room bro, we are all "Looking to rent farmland, purchase farmland, also offer custom farming and harvesting".

the one that moves from state to state and local city to city here is a google scam saying your google account is about to expire ( they will do these calls back to back changing locations). been getting it for years. most of the political ones show an id on the phone. gets frustrating with multiple lines on one phone, my second line doesnt show id verification and if the first number is busy it switches lines over automatically.  on another note my cell number was a prior drug line, i dont know how many calls ive returned at 4 am on the boat telling someone i have the stuff, strung out people looking for drugs dont find that funny getting woken up that early in the morning =)

My wife and her sister inherited the mineral rights under 24 acres of land in the "lead belt" down in MO. And for some years thereafter I paid the annual RE taxes of $16 to keep the memory of a long time departed grandfather alive. Those properties sold years ago sans mineral rights and part is now a shopping center and 3 homes - one of which is a huge home. Well anyway to this very day the gals get 3 to 4 solicitations each year to sell the property for upwards of $140K. Those solicitors simply do not examine the legal description on the tax rolls that they only own the now worthless mineral rights.

the town says my 0.1 acre on a 45 degree slope is taxable and worth close to 200,000 even if the house is removed. not sure how that works when the state wont let me put a new house back on it.....

Was watch the news last night and saw a story on a state that was trying to pass a law that would require the state to buy your property for the appraised value if you so choose too.

WRT the OP, I guess I've done things right, somehow.  I disconnected my land line about 8 months ago, and my cell/smart-phone hasn't rang in weeks.  I'm good with that.

Few years ago, someone added a phone number to a dentist’s office on google maps in northwest Ohio. The issue is they were off by one digit and it matched my number. I got calls for the dentist office for probably 18 months and the goofy part was 2 different google maps listings were available, one with the correct. Umber and one with mine.  I had to post the issue in a google help as there was no portal to request a a correction.  Got to where I would answer if it was an Ohio number and give them the correct number if I wasn’t in a meeting as about a 1/3 of the calls were elderly folks. Also talked to the dentist office directly and got “complimented “ on my customer service. Guess I should of tried to get some free dental work.  Then the calls just stopped and the my number was removed from their listing on google maps.

i got my house rezoned from a residence to a full time camp, its the only one in town. it allows kids living there to go to the towns public school system. one step down is seasonal camp which doesnt allow kids to use the school system and power gets shut down so many months of the year.  i pay about 60 percent of a residential home, get water/septic/trash pickup and really see no difference between a residential and full season camp. i had the same dog breed as the clerk that changed the zoning over....town politics at its best.

Let me explain how I cheated on my property taxes.  Step 1, find out what kind of dog the town clerk owns.

yep, pretty much a camp on a tenth of an acre with a coal stove for heat said the assessor, town, and pretty much everyone else including the dog, well,  except for the great and powerful oz behind the curtain...... =)

i still have a landline for emergencys as the cell seldom works in the house. 4-6pm seems like its targeted the most and i wont get up to answer it during those hours. they hit you hard just after work and during dinner
