I used to have a boat, there were days when it was absolute magic. But, the work to have one of those days ... cleaning, fixing, worrying during storms ... it just wasn't worth it for me, mostly due to the time I had available, and our location (Canada, 4 months a year in the water at best). They say the two best days of a boat owner's life is the day they buy the boat, and the day they sell the boat. It's true, lol.

Here was my boat, 28' out of the box, Rinker. We had lots of sleep overs in her. Was a good boat, but like I said too much work.

Now, I just stay involved in Boat Forums, and watch all the guys talking about the maintenance and issues ... that keeps me in check, in case I get that itch to buy a boat again. LOL. They help me remember the work involved! LOL.

If I was somewhere in Florida, and could use the boat year round, I'd probably be better with owning a boat.

I considered that, but figured that the friend with the boat also has a truck to pull it!

I keep my boat in the side yard a block away at a friend’s house, he has free use of it and I have virtually unlimited fresh fish.   My old boat is ready for the scrap pile.

When I was single and living in Sardinia (mid 1970's) I owned a ski boat that was the same as in this pic.
A 1972 Riva Rudy; 19' x 7' inboard powered by the first V-8 engine I ever owned.  Chrysler Crusader was the manufacturer-190 HP.
    1972 Riva Rudy EUR 38500-
Lucky to have lived thru that tour!  What fun-

Sardinia in the 70s with a cool boat.  Sounds like we need another Happy Hour so you can regal us with your stories.  I bet you could write a book.  James Bond could not have been prouder.

I had a Glastron that looked similar but white and red and a Volvo Penta 4 cylinder inboard outboard.  Over 40 years ago when I was in high school, I worked at a boat dealer.

Forgive the tangent. Posting the brother in law's boat from today. We will do a 5 day fishing trip on this vessel in early June. We may kill each other by the end of 5 days since we will be living aboard. But the fishing (and drinking) will be epic.

    Fish, Hunt, Cook....anything else?

@nolaegghead, the boy works at a boat dealer. Loves every minute of it. I predict he will be in the marine industry for real in a few years.

5 days is gonna be fun!  Will be making shore runs for food and fuel?

@Ozzie_Isaac yes sir. We will be sleeping on the boat docked at a small low country marina. Mostly fishing but we've got some bikes secured for shore excursions to the food joints (aka bars). No police activity on this trip...hopefully.

@ksmyrl - I'm sure you have planned for sufficient beverage ice, never mind the fish.  Debauchery comes to mind.  And you can get seriously injured riding a bicycle in a fogged state. Sounds like a whole lot of fun.  What could go wrong-
Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win.  Life is too short for light/lite beer!  Seems I'm livin in a transitional period.

I recall you said that in the LSU school thread…. I love the marine culture….I know it’s cheesy, but I read at least 20 Clive Cussler novels, and one nonfiction.

Good luck to your son, can be a very satisfying field.  Also can suck if you are unfortunate enough to be on a boat in a storm (I have)…🤪🤣

Clive Cussler huh? He is literally the ONLY fiction author I read. Problem is he would write them faster than I could read them. I read much more non fiction the older I get. But most of that non fiction is about nautical history or naval war history. Imagine that.

BTW, the boy decided to stay in GA for school. He will be a GCSU Bobcat. The fact that he gets to keep his job at a boat dealer on Lake Oconee I'm sure had nothing to do with his decision.

@GlennM according to Yacht Times that's the Ha Sea II. 112 feet built in 2006 in the USA by Westport Yachts. The boy loves this stuff and interned at a Yacht dealer in January in Sarasota. He can find almost anything about a boat based almost solely on the name. Great pic!

Someone who has way more expendable income than all of us. A motor yacht that size is a huge financial commitment much like a private jet
