Sausage stores in Louisiana and Alabama

Planning on a trip to Louisiana and Alabama. Where are they best places to load up on sausages, etc.?

Check out Conecuh in AL. I believe they’re in Evergreen but the product should be everywhere down there

@Dawgtired Do you know which areas or cities you might be stopping by? That will help narrow down some of the recommendations. As @ColtsFan said, you can find conecuh at pretty much any grocery store in AL, it is worth a taste. There is a retail store in Evergreen. Also, there are probably a few local sausage places in LA that are a must stop, but I will let others chime in on those. Get some boudin at some point.

As for Alabama, we've been on a Lil butcher shoppe sausage kick (Mississippi) lately, but you can find them at winn dixie and rouses markets. I have found them in the Montgomery area and gulf shores but there are likely other places that carry it. We like the pineapple, 3 cheese and blueberry.

Ok, so Lafayette is at the intersection of I-10 and I-49. Types of sausage we’re looking for? Boudin too?

Jacob’s sausage in Laplace has been recognized as making excellent andouille.  I like their chicken andouille, great for cold cuts.  Their boudin is good too, but you want to get your boudin around Lafayette where they are known for it.

Ok, local brands are great around here. Smoked sausage I’d either go Rabideaux’s or Cajun Brand (former owners of Richard’s Sausage). Boudin take your pick. Don’s, Billy’s, Best Stop, or my personal favorite Bourque’s Specialty Meats. Cajun makes great andouille and Tasso as well. Way better than Savoie’s or Richards.

Don’t sleep on Kartchner’s in Krotz Springs or Bergeron’s in Port Allen if you’re off the beaten path in Louisiana

I like Bergeron's.  Get some cracklin's to snack on the way.  You can do well pretty much anywhere along I-10 between Lake Charles and Baton Rouge.

I agree, I was going to recommend Little butcher shop and  Country pleasin sausage out of that landmass between Alabama and Louisiana (weather channel joke)  And conecuh is a definite favorite from Alabama.

I actually don't know of a single brand that's great in Lousiana but there are tons of great local shops for andouille, Boudin, cracklin and everything cajun over there.

Here’s a 2nd vote for Jacob’s in Laplace, it’s the best andouille out there and all I use for gumbos. Their tasso and pork sausage is hard to beat too. Bourgeois’s in Thibodaux is famous for their beef jerky if you’re down there.
