    So... not rechargeable then. Disappointing.

The price seems to be in the same neighborhood as the Breville. And the Breville gets pretty decent reviews.

I like the Amazon review that reads "It’s a nice appliance if you’re rich"

The price is kinda steep (but what isn't these days eh?) and I wouldn't be surprised if they go on sale in a few months.

Can you really make an argument for someone here on this forum purchasing this thing instead of one of the other, portable gas-fired ovens that are available and much less expensive?

How long have you been on this forum?? You know d@mn well that someone will buy one and  post a thread, after which 20 others will dive in.
Very possible, but that is not an argument for purchase.

Sure... someone that wants to cook some pies indoors in the climate controlled comfort of their home - especially on those days where Mother Nature is in an agitated uncooperative mood.
I'd buy one just for that purpose (but I likely won't).

Just use the dang oven that is already right there in your kitchen!  Sure it doesn’t go to 750F but you can still make a darn good pizza that way.  Isn’t that what you mostly do?

I will buy one.  Cause I am a weirdo and have to try everything.  I had to make pizza twice in the snow this winter.  Pissed me off.  I reckon I could crank them out a little quicker this way too.  I will either love it and use it a lot, or sell it for $600 and reflect on my $400 education about why you shouldn't buy one.

Sure, but it addresses one of the major complaints I have with my Ooni Koda - it burns the fvck out of geno's pizza rolls.

We all love toys of one kind or another and my assumption is that none of us actually need it even for high temp blistering hot pizza cooks as we all own at least one BGE. But I do have to ask, why would anyone want to spend a grand to fool around with trying to shoehorn a pie through the front door of any of these things. I have a hard enough time with my egg opened up like a hippopotamus. And I still screw it up.

The BGE is really not designed to cook Neapolitan-style pizza (where you need 900F).  Sure, you can do it, but it's really pretty tricky to pull off consistently.  It's much better at cooking pizza at 550F or so.

For me, the point of buying one of the portable pizza ovens (I have a Roccbox) was always something I looked at as a bridge towards cooking on a dedicated, larger WFO.  The idea was to get at least halfway decent at cooking that style of pizza first before making an investment in one of the larger ovens.

That being said, I love the Roccbox and cook all kinds of things in it, not just pizza.  Ribeye steaks, for example, cook fast and amazingly well at 900F.

Just looked at it on the Ooni site, and am very glad that I got my Roccbox. Good thing this hadn't been announced then or I might have waited. Seems to me that the only advantage this thing has is that it can be used indoors. But hey, I'm sure that there will be some early adopters here that report back and tell us what a wonderful toy this is.

@JohnInCarolina, I appreciate the details. I have to admit, maybe pizza hasn’t been a focus for me because of just that. They are good off the egg and better than “most” pies I can get locally. But not world class.

I still enjoy an Egged pizza from time to time.  I’ll do them at 550 and I appreciate the smoke flavor that gets into the crust.  You don’t really get that at 900F when the pizza is done in 90 seconds.

I got the roccbox because I could achieve higher temps and I wasn’t happy burning $10 an hour in lump keeping it WOT.  Also hard on everything - table, ceramics, handle, etc

even now I use my oven the most, less in the summer

Well this is underwhelming.  If I'm dedicating counter space to an electric pizza oven then I'm going all out, for less.

    https://www.webstaurantstore.com/avantco-dpo-18-s-single-deck-countertop-pizza-oven-1700w-120v/177DPO18S.html

This small countertop oven is great for cooking pizzas up to 18" in diameter! Since this unit only has one deck, it is ideal for establishments that need to keep up with the high demand for a couple of key menu items. An incredible temperature range of 150 to 840 degrees Fahrenheit guarantees the versatility you need to create a wide selection of menu items in a small footprint. For the best performance and even cooking, this oven is recommended for thin-crust pizzas cooked at 550 degrees for 6-8 minutes. This method ensures that pizzas are fully cooked with even leoparding on the crust.

I doubt that most folks would be dedicating permanent counter space to the Volt. It's significantly lighter than that Avantco and it was designed to be portable so it has handles that make it even easier to carry around. I'm guessing most folks are likely to treat the Volt like their Instant Pot or sous vide tank - it sits on a shelf in the garage until it's pizza night.
The Volt is also designed to be weather resistant so it can be used outdoors. Unlike that Avantco the Volt also has independent temp control of the top and bottom heating elements which can be very useful.
The price does seem steep but we'll see what the market decides. I wouldn't be surprised to see it on sale come mid-summer. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    Cheers,
    HeavyG - Ooni Volt shill
P.S. - I get phat commissions on every Ooni Volt sold to forum members  (which means I'll earn approximately $0.00 from this crowd).  :)
