Medical insurance has changed a lot since I needed to buy my own, but I learned (the hard way) that a broker was definitely worth having. Over time, the medical insurance I'd been on had gotten gradually more expensive. The broker I eventually found explained that since I hadn't jumped ship, they just gradually raised the price, figuring that there was a medical reason that I could not get a better policy. I saved a lot with her help and got better insurance, too. But as I said, things have changed. Still, seek one out and see how that affects things.

The ACA market is a market of last resort.  If you are COBRA eligible you are not eligible for ACA coverage until COBRA benefits are exhausted (18 months).

This is inaccurate.  About a year ago I assisted a COBRA eligible relative in signing up for a ACA plan.  Info regarding COBRA and the ACA can be found here: https://www.healthcare.gov/unemployed/cobra-coverage/

At the end of the day, if it’s a career choice, do it, don’t let insurance make your decisions, no matter you are never denied health care

I'm sure Cobra stands for something... Don't care. But it sounds sooooo cool.

Okay Ozzie. The forum is pretty much waiting for a report tomorrow evening that you quit your job and announced what you're going to be doing henceforth.

I am planning to have this done by June 1st.  I have some projects I want to see finished out, and that will give me time to get everything ready.

Yes, cobra can be 2-3x the cost of a ACA plan.  The coverage might be better, but if you're healthy then it might be better to just get on with it because you're going to lose that coverage in due time anyway.  I have a HSA plan off the ACA for myself.  A local broker hooked me up with it for under $400 a month.
