Going to visit my nephew and do a late Christmas as always and do a little duck hunting next week.
Getting him some additional gifts, especially now that Christmas is over and things aren’t as marked up.
Do they still make Creepy Crawler machines / kits?

Tried to find one online but I don’t know if they aren’t making anymore or if I’m looking in the wrong spots.

The hit in Christmas 2021 with the two kids of my nieces(grandnephews?) was Rockem Sockem Robots. They loved it . This year they got gift cards to Academy Sports. Last year I got the older grandnephew his own tackle box and a few lures that work for freshwater or saltwater beach and pier fishing.

Seriously though….you can’t go wrong with Legos…______________________________________________I love lamp..

My boys are only 3, going on 4, but they currently love magna tiles. They’re easy to clean up and don’t hurt if you step on them as well. Nerf guns are always a hit. Can’t have too many of those. Plus, you can’t go wrong with passes to the local zoo, a trip to one of those indoor trampoline parks or Dave and Busters. My kids have been known to hang on the door sideways while trying to get them out of Dave and Busters.*edit* FYI and FWIW, I probably play with the magna tiles as much as they do. They’re addictive.

Lego.

Not pocket knives. Parents of little kids don't like knives. Parents these days 🤷

As the parent of a 5 and 7 year old, Legos, Nerf, even Hot Wheels

Kids this age are often into the video games Minecraft and Roblox. Little boys this age are always into nerf guns. I got my nephew in this bracket Minecraft nerf things, and I think I’ve landed uncle of the year status as a result. My wife came up with the idea, but I took the credit

I'd agree with legos! Our son is turning 4 this month, he is still into trucks, construction vehicles, dinosaurs, hot wheels, and the occasional baking set. Our niece that lives with us is all about electronics, phone, watch, Nintendo switch etc.. Our friend's kids (6-12) are all into video games and electronics too. But I will say for a boy its hard to go wrong with a nerf gun and a ton of bullets.

rachael ray used to make a kids knife set. this was the best one, a sammie knife, the backside lays flat under the screw top to get that hard to get peanut butter. wonder if there was a lawsuit as that lineup is no longer available

If the noise/mess won't be in your house:
kazoo
recorder
drum set
karaoke machine
cat
puppy
slime
do it yourself bracelet making kit - my kids boys/girls ages 6-13 are way into this for some reason right now. Tiny beads, braiding string, and needles are EVERYWHERE.
"Nice" gifts that are not too messy:
Legos are huge for all right now
Swagtron hoverboard
knives as mentioned (my 9 year old feels naked without his EDC)
Slot cars & track or RC cars
probably too young for entry level drone
old electric or non electric typewriter - this was a white elephant gift and many hours were spent on the thing. Kids amazed at ancient history.
Refrigerator box with scissors and markers and tape to make a house/fort
My kids are really into a card game called SkyJo. I like it too. 30% strategy 70% luck.
Some of my boys love tearing things apart so they would really enjoy old computer monitors, digital cameras, radios, etc.
I've lately been trying to get gifts for my kids that are of value that they may keep the rest of their lives or something short lived that I know will be done/gone within 30 days.
Last year for Christmas we gave experiences. One was a first time snowboarding night as there are a few local ski hills. Grab a sit down dinner and go skiing/snowboarding. One on one.

If you wanted to go vintage, you could get them bottle caps and sticks. One year, my parents even got me rubber bands.

I've tried to find creepy crawlers myself with not much luck, at least the ones I remember as a kid.
Just had my 5 and 7 year old grandkids stay for a week over the holidays.
Magna tiles and legos are always a popular surprise.
The last two times they came I picked up a couple diamond painting kits and everyone including the moms love doing them. They are not difficult or messy and can be finished in one or two sittings depending on the kits
These coaster and a couple bookmark kits where I got this visit. There are tons of others also.

you are correct but that’s out of budget. Especially for my 5 yr old nephew .
probably need to buy a lockdown ring for the lady before I buy another gun lol -
