You now have a 29 day Advent Calendar- Zoom/Speakeasy opening Friday Dec 30th; 5/10 PM (EST/GMT)

At the request of many who want to cleanse 2022 from their memory here we go!
This should be another one for the history books in the annals of the Zoom gatherings.  In keeping with the international flavour, doors open as noted as our friends from across the Pond will drop in.
You will enjoy yourself however long you visit.  Social distancing is a given. Beverage(s) of your choice.  Level of participation your preference.  Just like enjoying your local watering hole and engaging or not with other patrons.  Everyone who has participated at whatever level has left with "value add."
Reminder:  Politics and religion make up the third rail and are off-limits.
Upfront thanks to @JohnInCarolina (aka The Chairman) for enabling this to happen for the entire time.
Zoom site linked here:   https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89600782373
Password is unchanged since inception (believe it or not, 32 months ago) and will be gladly provided, just ask.
This will be your greatest opportunity to wave farewell to 2022.
Lining up headliners now-
Not to be missed!!!
Cheers- Cap

  • Thanks for tending the bar as usual, Frank!

Hard to believe it was 32 months ago that we started this.

For the newcomers - this is an opportunity to meet some of the regulars around here.  Just  DM one of us and we’ll readily send you the password.  Frank always does a great job making new people feel welcome at these, and our British friends are always entertaining.  I know it can seem daunting to jump feet first into something like this but trust me you won’t regret it!

For the regulars I expect to see more than a few of you there to help us close out the year.  It’s not New Year’s eve so you don’t have any good excuses to miss out!

The backstory for those who are new to the forum and wonder what this thread is about.
When the covid lock-down/shutdown commenced in March/April 2020 @JohnInCarolina obtained a personal Zoom account that he offered for use to engage forum members otherwise in the self isolation mode.  The Zoom sessions happened EVERY Friday evening until May 2021.
Anyone and everyone was welcome.  The objective was to create an atmosphere where free-flowing conversation about a wide range of topics was encouraged.  This was routinely achieved.  BBQ and BGE were low on the list of things discussed.  Any hobby or interest was fair game and everyone definitely learned a lot.
To keep things flowing and not get heated, religion and politics make up the third rail and are off-limits.
I encourage you to drop in for as long or short as you wish.  Level of participation is your call.
Stay healthy and safe out there.
    See all Friday, Dec 30th!

The last couple of zoom calls I could not get the full "grid", with everyone's video, to come up; I could only see one person at a time (whoever was talking).  Anxious for this one as I think I may have figured out the issue.

I had installed two extensions in Safari: Wipr, and Vinegar.  One eliminates pop-up ads, and the other somehow eliminates commercials on longer EweTube videos.  They both worked great, but I started noticing at the end of some how-to videos, the person would say, "To see how I did bla-bla, click on these two boxes over here", he'd point to the side of the screen, but no boxes would show up.  I'm thinking one of those two extensions are what are preventing me from seeing the other zoom members, will disable those two extensions on the 30th and see what happens.

Botch if you want I can walk you through that some time - just the two of us on Zoom.  I think I might know what's going on as well.

I had a similar issue yet I was on a crappy tablet. I think it only showed 4 squares of people.

@JohnfromKentucky - Enjoy your birthday presents live and in colour (nod) and don't fall asleep.  If a standard Zoom evening you should be in the recovery/rebound stage while the session is still rolling. He11, you may get to turn a double play and and still make the lineup.   =)

@Botch, it is caused by the XM streaming app extension.  Since you haven't paid for your subscription this month, they lock out your zoom windows.

Hey Frank, full confession. I just tried to log onto the zoom link because for some reason I thought our zoom session was tonight. I guess I didn’t read your post closely enough my bad.
The only thing I saw when I logged on was a ceiling fan spinning. I have no idea what that means.

I dunno. I've been on a few of these zooms. Lots of excrement gets thrown around.

Once more to page one.  This session is not to be missed.  The culmination of the best of 2022. And no cover charge, drinks of your choice along with self-selected seating. The place to be Dec 30th.

One week from today.  And in addition to the Zoom, Dec 30th is National Bacon Day.  What a great way to celebrate.
