"A federal judge yesterday ruled that a nationwide class of individuals who were living in the United States when they were detained by immigration authorities are legally entitled to a hearing to determine whether they can be released on bond while their deportation cases proceed. The judge ruled last week that the Trump administration’s policy adopted in July of denying bond hearings to migrants during domestic enforcement operations was illegal for specific individuals. Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) yesterday filed a lawsuit against Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency Bill Pulte, claiming that Pulte breached federal privacy laws by repeatedly disclosing documents intended to accuse prominent Democrats of mortgage fraud. A coalition of 20 states, led by New York Attorney General Letitia James, yesterday filed a lawsuit against the Department of Housing and Urban Development, seeking a court order blocking the “administration’s cuts and illegal new conditions” on the HUD’s Continuum of Care program funding. “These funds help keep tens of thousands of people from sleeping on the streets every night. Wednesday TRUMP ADMINISTRATION LITIGATION
A federal judge yesterday ordered federal immigration officers to stop arresting suspected undocumented migrants in Washington without a warrant unless they could show a flight risk. The judge said that federal law only allows warrantless arrests when officers have probable cause that the person is in the country illegally and is likely to escape before a warrant can be obtained. The plaintiffs in a lawsuit challenging the tactics of federal immigration agents in the Chicago area withdrew the suit on Tuesday, saying that since the presence of Border Patrol in the city has sharply diminished, there was no need to continue in court. Thursday TRUMP ADMINISTRATION LITIGATION
The New York Times today filed a lawsuit against the Pentagon, arguing that the Defense Department infringed on the constitutional rights of its journalists by imposing a new set of restrictions on reporting about the military. The Times is asking the court to issue an order stopping the Pentagon from enforcing the press policy, along with a declaration that the provisions relating to the exercise of First Amendment rights are unlawful. Four former federal employees yesterday filed a lawsuit on behalf of a proposed call of similarly-suited federal workers, alleging that the Trump administration carried out an unlawful, targeted purge of career civil servants based on perceived political affiliation, race or gender, or advocacy for protected groups.
