This, sorta, frightens me.
Seven years ago, if the republican race would have been only two candidates, say cheeto and Jeb Bush, Bush would've won the r nod. Instead, the voters were spread out among seventeen candidates, each with 1 to 3% of the votes. trump got caught on video, twice, being anti-female and racist, and suddenly he was at 20% (corresponding to the bottom 20% of all republicans who were the same), and, one by one, the more civilized candidates dropped out. We all know what happened after that.
That's why the huge field above scares me. Yeah, the loss of the historical "red wave" last week is encouraging, but if cheeto once again gets the republican nod, combined with the rampant disinformation, and the violent, armed far right (and the too-large groups in both cops and the military who are more aligned with their cult than their Constitutional oath), well, we're in trouble again.

Just wish my own party, the "law and order" party, truly was:
