OT: purchases and gifts meant to last :OT

Just like the BGE itself I bet we all have something that was built to last beyond your lifetime. That thought came to mind this morning as I was making blue berry muffins using a stainless steel bowl we received as a wedding gift 56 years ago.
You have something you also know will outlast you?

There's a cast iron skillet in the family that has been passed down over the years. I believe I'm the 3rd generation to use it.

We have 200 year old cast iron pans in our family. My dad has them now, I'll get them eventually. That will be like 5 generations.

Sorry to be a killjoy, Ron, it was meant to be dark humour.

I thought @GrateEggspectations was from Canada? I must have been mistaken.
We have two items: Enamel casserole dish and enameled cast iron pot. Both from my wife's grandmother who recently passed. She used borh regularly when she was teaching our kids how to cook. Those, hopefully, will be used and cherished long after I am gone.Maybe your purpose in life is only to serve as an example for others? - LPL

Canadians can borrow money too, @ozzie_isaac. It’s not all just pelt trading anymore.

But back to the question at hand, the 1999 SubZero fridge we bought 3 years ago will likely outlast me. So @Ikapigian... I'm sensing you're kinda serious into this smoking stuff.

A gift that is near and dear to my heart was given to me by a friend of my father's. It's a gold watch.
The watch was first worn by my great grandfather, during the first world war. It was bought in a little general store in Knoxville, Tennessee. My great grandfather wore it every day of the war until he got home, and took it off and put it in a coffee tin. It stayed there until my grandfather came along and was called off to WW2 to fight the Germans. It was given to him by my great grandfather for good luck. Unfortunately he wasn't as lucky as my great grandfather and my grandfather was killed with all the other Marines in the battle of Wake island.
My grandfather knew he wasn't going to make it off the island, so he asked a man aboard a ship, name of Wanaki, who he'd never met before to take the watch back home and deliver it to his infant son, whom he'd never met. Wanaki kept his word and gave the watch to my father after the war.
The watch was on my dad's wrist when he was shot down over Hanoi. He was captured and put in a Vietnamese prison camp where he knew if the enemy ever saw the watch they'd confiscate it and take it away. The way my dad looked at it, the watch was my birthright. There was no way he was going to let them take it from him, so he hid it in the one place he knew it would be safe, his ass. Five long years he wore the watch, up his ass. Then... he died of dysentery. Before he died he handed his buddy the watch, where that man hid that uncomfortable piece of metal up his own ass for another two years, before coming home from Nam. He delivered it to me in my living room when I was five years old, and you can be damn sure my own son will wear it when I'm gone.California -
Savage\Stevens model 311A in 12 gauge. My grandfather purchased it new. Before he died he Dave to my father. My father gave it to me a few years back. Also have a single shot 12 gauge that was my great grandfathers. It too has been handed down through the generations. These will be given to my sons when the time is right.

@Tip2Tip...what a story!!
I have 2 items my dad gave me that I'll give to my son. A S&W .357 magnum stainless model 686, 6 inch barrel, with walnut grips. I was with him when he bought it in 1981 at a gun show. I was 8. I remember to this day thinking it was the absolute coolest thing I'd ever seen. Dad killed many a hog (hence my love of BBQ) and even a black bear with that gun. I shoot it regularly and it's still the sweetest shooting handgun I own. And I have a "few".
In 1965 dad received a St. Christopher medal on a silver chain from the priest on his ship that was headed towards the Vietnam peninsula. Dad wasn't Catholic but was so impressed by this man's compassion he kept the medal and wore it every day. Every day until the day I converted to Catholicism in 2008. He gave it to me before my first Catholic communion and I've worn it every day since.
Dad passed in 2020. I remember him every day thanks in part to that medal.
Sorry yall...a little heavy for a BBQ forum. Thanks for listening (reading)

With fly fishing reels I went with the idea,. Buy it once, buy it right. 35 years later I'm glad I did, no need to ever replace them. An investment well worth every foolish penny I paid for them in my younger years. And I must have been foolish as I got alot of flack for buying those reels.
