OT Just some cheesesteaks on the Black Stone

For some reason, I have never made cheese steaks. Ever. In my life.  Even though I really like them.

Taking some inspiration from the Hungry Hussey's latest video and Blackstsone Betty, I decided to give it a try Friday night. Took Betty's advice on one of her YouTube videos and warmed up a small can of unsweetened evaporated milk and warmed it up and then added 1/2 lb of white American cheese a little bit at a time letting it melt in before adding more.

As that was going on, I also started cooking about half of a yellow onion.

When the onion started to get some color, I added in 8 oz of mushrooms. Now, I don't know if that is traditional, but then again I never said this was a Philly Cheesesteak.

Next up came the meat. One ribeye that I cut off the bone and sliced on my slicer as thin as I could get it.

When people tell you to put the meat in the freezer for 30 minutes to firm up before slicing, they are lying. I had that steak in the freezer for an hour and it still should have been longer to firm up. Oh well, I did my best.

Used Martin's Hoagie Rolls. It was the best option I could find at my local grocery store and I didn't feel like driving around looking for a better option.

I thought it was amazing. Mrs. G approved. Duke? Not so much. He loves steak, American cheese and bread. Put them together and it was a "No". I don't get it. Can't win them all.

I cook mine in a cast iron skillet on the egg. I have found thinly shaved NY strip at the grocery store, but come to think of it I haven't seen it in a while. Your post made me want to go looking for it so I can make it again.

Whoa.  My blackstone is currently preheating for some Chopped Cheese sandwiches, copied from Hungry Hussey’s Youtube channel.

Rather than thin sliced steak, chopped cheese uses ground beef…otherwise, very similar.

What are you planning for dinner tomorrow night, so I can coordinate?  😀

I can't find a butcher that will cut that thin.  I'm sure I can buy in bulk like others have stated, but it's likely frozen.

Your sandwiches look so very tasty.

I've never had a chopped cheese but I've been watching videos about them and I want to try and make some so bad.

I think its still going to be raining here in the DFW, so I think I'm going to cook inside and make schnitzel. Not sure yet though.

I could yes.  :-)  One mistake I made when picking cuts on our beef.  I checked a box on the form to get many many round steaks . . . so now I have probably 40 round steaks.  They are not as easy to cut thin as a roast - the grain direction and all.

that cut would be great for a marinated bulgogi steak and cheese. simmer down some marinade to drizzle on top. doesnt need to be shaved, half inch cubed steaktips work as well

You just made my lightbulb go off.  I've got some smoke provolone I need to use up, and some thinly-sliced beef from the Asian market in the freezer that I didn't use for soup last spring.  All I need is a couple of hoagie rolls.

These steaks were made for wokking and that's just what they'll do. . .
