I’ve been thinking of my favorite WW2 movies and I’m stumped on the one I recall that has an army group
retreating from the the Japs to a hill where they then have a last stand before being rescued.
I thought it it was merrils marauders but no that wan’t it. What do you think?

I said to my wife, 'Where do you want to go for our anniversary?' She said, 'I want to go somewhere I've never been before.' I said, 'Try the kitchen.'

My favorite is "The Great Escape" starring Steve McQueen and James Garner. It takes place at the POW camp in Sagan, Germany, which is where my father was born. It is based upon a true story and he was a young boy when it happened.
30 seconds over Tokyo is one of my favorites. By happenstance I got to meet Col. Robert Hite a few years before he died. He was the neighbor of a friend I was visiting in an assisted living facility. Col. Hite was the co pilot of the 16th plane off the deck of the USS Hornet on April 18, 1942; one of Doolittles Raiders.
He was still able to tell me some stories. He was captured after his plane crashed and was a POW until 1945.
I was able to see his Distinguished Flying Cross and Purple Heart up close which were proudly displayed on his apartment wall.
By luck I was reading the book 30 seconds over Tokyo at the time and had it in my truck. He signed the page with his picture for me. I was more than humbled to be in the presence of a true American Hero from the greatest generation.

Most are thinking more a Sgt. Stryker than a Colonel Vandervoort.

Watching others do the heavy lifting for our freedom, sure, that must feel patriotic.
