And don’t think that if the republicans win the White House in 24, they won’t expand the scotus and pack it with the youngest conservative judges they can find.

What's the end game, force Congress to legislate, or do they really want to ban and outlaw all of this? I hope they are trying to force Congress to legislate again instead of leaving all the heavy social lifting from the bench.
If it is worth doing, it is worth overdoing.
It amazes me, how many people do not realize how the future works.
It's a sad day for the country. This bell will be very difficult to unring, and there is a good chance it's just the start of a long slide towards what is effectively an autocratic theocracy.

I'm guessing we won't hear much from the Party of Trump about radical activist judges today.
We knew this decision was coming and now that it's official I'm thinking the mid-term elections just got a lot more interesting. Between this decision, yesterdays gun rights decision, and the Jan 6 hearings I'm pretty hopeful that the Party of Trump isn't going to have an enjoyable November.

That “might” be the only silver lining.
I don’t have the stats handy but an overwhelming majority of the US did not want Roe overturned.
The DNC needs to start creating effective ads pronto.

I'm not. My current view is that it's going to be a bloodbath for the Dems.

This article touches on the impact on a state by state basis...
Abortion remains legal or legal for now in 35 states. Abortion is potentially illegal or soon to be illegal in 11 states. Abortion is illegal in 5 states.

Unfortunately I think that you are already near the bottom of the slide.

It was a debate. I mean we all say things in a debate, or a congressional investigation we don't really believe. Plus, what is really the definition of "settled"?

Hopefully others realize the above was sarcasm born out of astonishment and I find this decision abominable. What is the point of precedence when 50 years of it can be over turned.
I think the democrats will greatly benefit from this. It might sound crazy, but hear me out.
With Pence and Republicans calling for a nationwide ban on abortion, they are acting against the majority of Americans and during a mid-term they had in the bag. Now, Americans, especially the moderates and socially progressive republicans that Dems need will be on their side. The mid-terms clearly matter now. Nobody can deny that. Why would the republicans do this now and set themselves up for a loss. This is like the marathon runner celebrating just before the finish and the second place runner passes them. It looks grim this morning, but I think this will be a turning point in American politics. Stripping away freedoms, threatening consenting adults, removing medical choices. This is a road too far for Americans. The republicans are greedy and out of touch. This is the lifeline Dems and America needed. A unifying topic.
I now will pay a lot closer attention to social stances of candidates. I thought these items were settled so I ignored some of the far out there positions and focused on fiscal policies, and freedoms. Now I see this is not the party of freedom or choice, and they have the power to take those rights away. That moves it way up my priority list.

I caught the sarcasm for sure.
I appreciate your evolution on the social aspects. Unfortunately, I suspect you're in the minority. Most citizens are probably going to vote in the midterms largely based on what the price of gas happens to be. Individual rights just aren't a priority to a lot of people, because they assume changes like what we saw from SCOTUS this week will never impact them.

I can't remember, are potential SC Justices sworn in before the questioning? If so, what happens when three of them committed perjury? Nothing, I guess.
