Uvalde News

This just keeps going from bad to worse:

https://www.today.com/news/news/photo-appears-show-uvalde-officers-rifles-shield-19-minutes-attack-did-rcna34487

I hope these guys have good explanations for some of this, but sheesh it's not looking good.  I am kind of surprised the citizens haven't run them out of town yet.

during covid with the threats of a possible protest here the police station went into total lock down. they brought in thousands of concrete barriers and circled the station. did not see a cruiser on the roads for months. seems like a new norm is emerging. you could run those guys out of town but they still get paid.  the thing that typically happens here is a forced retirement, 80 percent of their pay tax free, then they can still do duties like hold the slow/stop sign when a tree gets removed at full pay plus hazard pay.  they dont actually have a sign, thats beneath them but they do get compensated if they bring their own car, their wifes car, their daughters car for use and a full free tank of gas.  wonder how it works down there

Yeah, when I read a week or so ago that the Uvalde police department was hiring a private law firm to help them fight the release of body cam footage that there really was some gobsmacking footage/evidence they are working hard to hide.

I assume there was a lot of: "Not it!", "Rock, Paper, Scissor", and straw drawing going on.  I feel awful for the town and the parents.  In addition, these yellow belly cowards have done more damage to the police image nationwide then any defund protests ever could have.

    Just read the testimony:

    1. Door wasn't locked
    2. They had a crowbar even if it had been locked
    3. Commander in scene had no radio and assumed someone else was in charge.
    4. They had a significant presence with rifles on scene within 3 minutes.
    5. Had a riot shield within 8 minutes.

Translation: They were just waiting till the shooter ran out of bullets.

This. Unfortunately, these guys never signed up for this. Can’t imagine what any of us would do in that situation. So easy to sit back afterwards and say they should have done this or that. I’m just praying for all of them.

I feel bad for them as well, and their families, but they did sign up for this and many of them trained as a swat team as well.

Plus, IIRCC, they had active shooter training shortly before this tragedy.

Too easy to step back if your leader steps back.pretty much a shame.  Any ways, liability insurance is a must even though it sucks, it should be a given with the job

The training precincts received after Columbine, all precincts, nationally, is just about the opposite of what these guys did.

I’m all for giving people the benefit of the doubt in extreme situations, especially early on when reports are contradictory and all the facts aren’t known.  But at this point in Uvalde the dust has cleared and it’s time to start calling a spade a spade.

I have a good friend who used to be a SWAT commander and currently is the bomb squad commander.  He and his guys live for these situations.  Some of the video I have seen, not just stories over the campfire, make you realize there is a time and place for storming someone.  It is very rare, but not never.  His teams put themselves in harms way in a blink.  This was not that.  This was a department of cowards more worried about upsetting their chief.  Disgusting all the way around.
