I’m getting taken to the woodshed by a Canadian! I should seriously re evaluate my social discord.

    Why @GrateEggspectations? Just why
Not sure when paging a member with relevant experience became taboo. But perhaps it’s appropriate to channel the line one member once chided me with when I innocently asked another member whether photos were his (and was correct in my suspicion that he was in fact a professional photographer)…. “Care to post the thread rules?”
I would think paging a member that has been banned by the mods and is operating under an obvious troll account is perhaps a slightly different story.

Regardless, the dude hasn’t been active of late.
The member in question is an active, legitimate member until the mods say otherwise. If any of you become mods, you can of course decide otherwise. Until then, forum composition is not up to you; nor me. Many may just as easily argue that you, me or the assassin who is Alaskan shouldn’t be here. Be glad they haven’t been granted that power.

I have been on the receiving end of his insults and have found them distasteful, but cannot overlook that there can still be valuable info he has to share. I have also received helpful PMs out of nowhere. I tend not to throw the baby out with the bath water. Knowledge - That’s all I was trying to tap into here. Anyone who reads further can assume rightful responsibility for their own assumptions. Just because I tag him, as I routinely do other members, it should not be erroneously conflated with endorsement. If it is construed as such, check yourself. Some of y’all may be axe murderes for all I know. I don’t police all activity by all members. Not only because it’s not my role, but because I am on here for but a finite period of time per day and would not begin to draw conclusions that I could deem accurate from the small sample of behaviour I see from each member on this forum.

Are you saying you’ve never interacted with a troll account (including those resulting from a ban), let alone operated one? Weren’t you yourself also banned at one point? Should I use that as a barometer for whether or not I should be interacting with you? C’mon now, John.

Many of the most savage posts I’ve seen on this forum have come from members - many of whom are still active - who were never banned, let alone even reprimanded by their fellow members for the taunting (e.g., making fun of a member’s medical conditions, posting unflattering and modified photos of other members in jest, etc.). Are we saying that banning is the a good indicator of poor social responsibility on the forum? This has been quite far from my experience since joining in 2016. Have seen some pretty merciless stuff that went unchecked by both mods and members “in good standing.”

To contrast, I am now being challenged for simply tagging an active member who, while unpopular with many and perhaps banned under previous accounts, has legitimate experience to share on the subject at hand, which is why they have been tagged. Not sure where I have erred so grievously. Pretty sanctimonious crowd here.

Three relevant major principles (of many) that I legitimately always seek to live by: i) live and let live, ii) do no harm, and iii) glass houses. If I have not violated any of those here, please see “i.” If I have violated any, please see item “i” and carry about your business. 🙂

I gave this long treatment because I refuse to believe that by tagging a member, I am somehow complicit in their perceived misdeeds and I resent the inference. I don’t own any other member’s actions any more than you own mine. To take that position would be irresponsible, as well as a severe logical shortcut.

    Is it Friday yet?
Good grief man.  This is a bit ridiculous as a response to what I posted.

I'm not calling for him to be banned.  I'm just pointing out that calling on him is perhaps a wee bit, slightly different from calling on someone else here.  You defended your initial post as saying you were only calling on someone with "relevant experience".  Well, that's a little disingenuous, don't you think?  Because there's obviously quite a bit more to the story with this particular individual, as your own response above indicates.

I wouldn't characterize what you did as some kind of "egregious error".  I just think there are other, perhaps better choices you could have made.   That's all.  This really isn't that big of a deal.  Finally, nobody is suggesting you're "complicit" in anything, at least not that I can see.  You got some pretty mild pushback from me and alaskan, and you're overreacting.

The last thing I'll say about this, since I really don't want to derail this thread any further, is that while I appreciate you weren't here when I was banned from the forum, it was really nowhere close to what happened to Lit.  Both in terms of why I was banned, and the response to the ban here.  Comparing the two situations is a little ridiculous.

Is now a bad time to point out little rascal and Prescott are agreeing with your posts? I’m kidding. Seriously though sorry if I offended you, you seem like a great guy.  Finally if I had the feeling people didn’t want me posting here I would gladly find somewhere else to spread my peace and love.

  • I am not worked up, and I appreciate the note, @alaskinassasin. I just grow tired of walking on eggshells every time @Lit is mentioned and wanted to detail why. This isn’t even close to the first time that some conflate my mentioning of his name with some sort of endorsement of his actions. Honestly, I don’t know the guy and as mentioned, have been on the receiving end of both insults and graces over the years. I take his participation on the forum for what it was and don’t try to paint it otherwise. But I am not huge on others somehow using that as ammunition just because I mention his name. I am and always have very much been my own being. I expect to be judged on my own merit. I have openly apologized on this forum - once as a result as a perceived slight of @Lit and company. Hopefully, you’ll find that I don’t speak ill of many on this forum and that when I do and it is perceived as an insult, I take responsibility. But similarly, I don’t shy away from giving credit where it is due or calling upon expertise where it is warranted (such as when an active member has intimate experience with a PK Grill on a thread about portable grills). I’d like to do that free of inference and corresponding judgement.

    So, portable grills, eh?

I’m in the market for a portable car camping grill.  I prefer charcoal but could do gas.  Electric wont work.  Don’t want to spring for the minimax.  Currently considering the Weber go anywhere, smokey joe and lodge sportsman.  Any feedback/recommendations?
checkout a weber Jumbo Joe. the Jumbo Joe is 18 inch, and I've never owned one but I had an 18 inch kettle for a while and cooked a fair amount on it.

you can use the jumbo joe on a table at home in addition to your BGE for shorter cooks.

I had a smokey joe for a long time. I got it in 82 and I used for about 20 years. It was a good little grill, but the 14 inch grate is pretty small.

    current: | Large BGE |  Genesis 1000 | Genesis E330 | 22 inch Kettle | Weber Summit Kamado
    sold:| PitBoss pro 820  WSM 22

Dang, what is going on in the world. Who picks a fight with a Canadian?

My new "camping" setup is a wok burner and a wok.  Simple, light, incredibly versatile.

I wasn’t aware this was even possible.  Well, at least not outside of a hockey game.

I had my eye on the Weber Q version for a long time but  couldn't get myself to spend the $$$.  Some years back there was a Neighborhood Garage Sale and took youngest kid to go do some drive by shopping- First House there is one sitting in the driveway.

Rolls down window- Is that for sale?
Yes - used it once for camping, dont like camping it turns out.
    Great- How Much?
    Oh... How does $10 sound?
Slams car in Park runs over there and completes buy.

Gets home  and opens it up and there is still 3 hot dogs in it....  :D

Anyway we take it on every camping trip, I do quite a bit of Bike Day Trips or Bike meetups and use it for post ride grilling.   Picked up a hose to attach to full size Propane Bottle recently and will either build a stand for it or buy a cart of some kind to add it to backyard cooking since the never used Gas Grill is just about rusted out.

Long story- its a great Grill, Highly recommend.  I would get the Q2### Series for the extra cooking surface, we generally fill it up while camping.   You can get Griddle Accessories for it  but in the past I just put a Cast Iron pan on it for Griddle needs.

*Pro tip- the grease does run down into a catch tray, I cover that tray with foil before the trip and peel off when packing.  Otherwise you can have a decent mess to deal with.
XLBGE, LBGECharbroil Gas Grill, Weber Q200, Old Weber Kettle, Rectec RT-B380, Yeti 65, Yeti Hopper 20, RTIC 20, RTIC 20 Soft Side - Too many drinkware vessels to mention.

Not quite in Austin, TX City Limits
Just Vote- What if you could choose "none of the above" on an election ballot? Millions of Americans do just that, in effect, by not voting.  The result in 2016: "Nobody" won more counties, more states, and more electoral votes than either candidate for president.

I have a PKGO w/ flip kit that I take on the boat with me.  Great little charcoal grill.  Not too heavy, locks together, easy to cool and clean.  Very happy with it!

Bought the biggest model ‘campfire’ just before Christmas and we don’t even camp. It was an impulse buy - buy one get one free with free shipping. I sold one right away to reduce the damage to my pocket. Have not played with it yet. I even fabricated a bottom plate with small holes so it can work with pellets too.
