What are y’all using to lift out a hot plate setter? My local dealer is out of the plier like grippers and a search online reveals all kinds of alternatives.

I use the Eggspander, the bottom part works great for handling plate setter (convEggtor). You can also just get the bottom part.( not sure who came up with the new names, but I can never remember them and need to look it up each time

Regardless of what type of gloves/mittens you use, it helps to plan your landing spot before you pick it up, don’t ask how I knowcanuckland

Firefighter gloves. But before you go down the glove road, make sure you already know the landing zone as it can get warm very quickly. FWIW-Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period.

I use a wire gizmo that has a folded handle, which also allows me to hang the hot ps from the side table, very handy and quick.
I’ll be damned if I can find an image of it (that I can copy/paste), or remember who I got it from.___________"They're eating the checks! They're eating the balances!"

Welding gloves look like a good move.Michiana, South of the border.

Has anyone tried this design? It looks like it would be easy to grab the plate setter with good control, but without high pressure points on the stone.
I usually lay my plate setter across a couple bricks on the deck.Greenwood, IN. / XL BGE / retired engineer -

(I did actually use a deep-throat "C" clamp I got at Harbor Fright for $3.95 years ago, but as @bgeBill mentioned above, that put a huge pressure point on the platesetter)
EDIT: And the Kick-Ash guys make this one:

If you have the old style hinges, the claw is my favorite. However, you can't get the claw into the egg with new hinges.

Now, I have one of these that works well, too.

This is a moment where “I’ll get around to it” meets “while I’m thinking about it.” I’ve been using a large pair of Channelocks to pull out a white hot plate setter during reverse sear cooks. While I’m doing it, I’m worrying about the single point stress on the ceramic plate setter and thinking “gotta get a removal tool.” I had one, but it’s lost. I like KAB products, but with an XL they advise using two of their lifters for safe operation. I pulled the trigger on this one:

Wow, you have incredibly small hands, Ron! Probably great for running gasket in the back of an egg by the hinges....

BTW guys - whoever has flagged several of the responses here tonight was NOT me!And if any are really interested those huge “foundry” gloves of mine actually measure 7”:x 13” .
Why did I even buy them??? For 3 summers while in college in the 1960s I worked in a foundry - as close to HELL as I care to get!
I suppose I bought those gloves as a reminder of those horrible foundry Summers which paid off! -

I just grab it with my bare hands at this point.
It really hurt the first time but after the blistering and peeling was done it got a lot easier."I've made a note never to piss you two off." - Stike
