I'm familiar with the documentary; Donald Fagen (Steely Dan) got majorly offended when the term was applied to his music (in fact the story comes up at the end of that trailer).

Only Michael McDonald and Kenny Loggins seemed to take it in stride.  Fagen is treated quite well by the documentary overall. I enjoyed it.

I don’t get HBO, maybe it’ll show up on Apple TV or EweTube someday.  
I actually don’t consider MM, Toto nor KL to be “yacht rock” either (really, it seems just a term for Jimmy Buffett, to me) but it’s just a label…

They try to define it in the documentary.  It’s not that rigorous, lol.  

Anyway you might also be able to rent it through Amazon, I wouldn’t be surprised.
