East-German spy cameras:

Can you imagine living in a country where one out of every 30 citizens were a spy, and 1 in 3 citizens were being actively surveilled? (And this was pre-internet).___________"When small men begin to cast big shadows, it means that the sun is about to set."

Of course these days everybody is a "spy" and anonymity is almost impossible to maintain.

Satellite sees annular solar eclipse from 1 million miles away (photo)
The stunning shot comes courtesy of the DSCOVR satellite.By Mike WallNASA's EPIC camera aboard the DSCOVR spacecraft captured this photo of the annular solar eclipse of Oct. 14 2023 from nearly 1 million miles (1.6 million kilometers) away. (Image credit: NASA/DSCOVR EPIC team)Last weekend's "ring of fire" solar eclipse was spectacular from deep space as well.
The Deep Space Climate Observatory (DSCOVR) satellite snapped an amazing photo of the eclipse, which thrilled millions of skywatchers across the the Americas on Saturday (Oct. 14).
DSCOVR lies nearly 1 million miles (1.6 million kilometers) from Earth, so its perspective is a unique one. The image shows our brilliant blue planet against the blackness of space, its vibrant hues muted in one sizable patch — much of North America — by the moon's dusky shadow.
Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. -
Sure hoping the satellite has better resolution than the forum on my phone right now…"I've made a note never to piss you two off." - Stike

the first knot is cool, but the second one is my favorite and most used for tying things down, grew up calling it a canoe knot for tying a canoe rooftop. guess its called a truckers hitch. extremely tight line knot that slips apart when done.

Thanks @paqman, I just spent the evening practising @fishlessman's trucker's hitch and you threw this curveball
edit: nice and tight on single anchor point, how do you keep it taut between two anchors though?

I recently discovered a site that sells heavily discounted DRM free ebooks. They also sell software and games. I was hesitant at first but I purchased a couple of book bundles and they are legit. The site is humblebundle.com, they are some kind of charity and are giving away a percentage of purchases to various organizations. A couple of weeks ago, I purchased a bundle of books about survival and it included a couple of books about
knots. I was reading about that a one earlier today, strange timing 🤔.

Thanks fish, wish I knew this all these years Hoping I can remember when the need arises.
Edit: ok I have nothin' better to do, just tried @HeavyG's second video, it's not the same as @fishlessman's video. So far this is my favourite - simple, works real well, same at both anchors, each can be tightened independently.

i put the loop on the left around the lower anchor, come back through the truckers loop with the tag end, then pull down hard with the tag end til its bow string tight, then half hitch it. its simpler than it looks. tie the top anchor, put the other side down around the lower anchor, and heres the trick....grap the line in the middle with one hand, twist once or twice with the same hand, put your finger withe the same hand thru the loop and grab the lower part of the line and pull thru, thats the loop you use to put the lower line back up and thru and cinch tight. if you see it done you dont need to remember how to tie it, its grab line twist, pull some line thru to make the loop, now we just put the other end of the line in to make it work like a rope winch. internet visuals arent always best.
