After 10 years, 3 gasket replacements (including Rutland) and two 2 sets of rings and in a blink of an eye, its over.
I’ve had a constant underbite issue to the point where a seal was unattainable for most of its life. I just kept cooking 2-3 times a week. I have actually gone through a mild depression over this. I’m writing this to tell you all I don’t care how much “experience” you have accumulated. Bad things do happen. I hope someone will learn from my apathy and carelessness.

Been there and done that. It sucks. I ran mine smooth over. Hopefully you can dust yourself off and get back in the saddle once again.

Is it just the dome? Base still ok?
If that's the case then it does still suck but on the bright side you can order a new dome and a new hinge assembly and your egg will be good as new. Hopefully it should be more than a few hundred bucks.Which came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg. -
Regrettably I have been there, done that. Dome open, fire going well. Shutting the lower vent to get an even bed of coals for paella cook. Resistance the last 1/8". Gave the lower damper cover a good push and over it went. Dropped about 18" and what didn't land in the landscaping hit the patio. Devastated but did grab the garden hose and kill the fire. Then fired up the SBGE and with some creativity, cooked the paella. Most expensive paella ever.Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period.

DMChicago - short version, adjusting bandstand hinge.
WeberWho - Count on it, its a part of my life, just got Mile Tysoned.
RRP - No. It went straight down. I've had to readjust those bands repeatedly. That is literally my only complaint about the Egg. And I don't top it off with lump at every cook as it doesn't seal and I have to let it burn out after each cook. One of my greyhounds was standing there a moment before. Lesson learned

Gamecockeggman - I'm sorry, I just don't want anyone to get hurt other than burning arm hair. -
Glad you and the pooch are ok. Sorry for your loss.
I wish more dealers provided "at home" service. It is a shame that you fought it so long. I hope it doesn't sour you on BGE.Clinton, Iowa -
I agree Langner91, No, it doesn't. I'm in the middle of "when it rains it pours" part in life with many issues that have to be addressed first. But I do think BGE can consult a metallurgist to deal with an issue many of us seem to have.

So sorry to see this, and I hope the difficulties pass very soon.
It is an inconvenience not a tragedy, that is how I measure it. If it can be fixed, even with cost, it is an inconvenience, if it is a loss that has no possible option to ever get it back, that is a tragedy.

Again - I'm sorry for your loss. I still wonder though what you meant about "I've had to readjust those bands repeatedly" especially after you have had 2 sets of bands. Were the bands "stretching" from regular inferno temperatures? Or were the nuts coming loose? Were your bolts bent as is recommended?
I'm just trying to figure out what went wrong. -
Sorry to hear that! 😕😕😕
I would have been devastated for sure!
Maybe sugar gliders messed up with the bolts?____________________Entrepreneurs are simply those who understand that there is little difference between obstacle and opportunity and are able to turn both to their advantage. •Niccolo Machiavelli -
@mombasa333 If you don't currently have the new style bands, I'd recommend purchasing them when you order your new dome. Couple benefits you'll receive...- they are easier and more intuitive to adjust for correct over/underbite and dome/base gap at the gasket interface.- they have a couple tabs to keep dome from falling out should upper band become loose.Life throws everyone some curve balls. Sounds like you can hit them. Good luck to you.LBGE, LBGE-PTR, 22" Weber, Coleman 413GGreat Plains, USA

That def sucks, and we all feel your pain. Hopefully, you don't give up BGE forever. I am with the others that recommend a new set of bands, a new dome and you're back in the saddle. There's lots of positive vibes going your way from many of the Eggers on this forum...

Sorry to hear about that, I can identify with that a bit but without the pain of paying for a new one. Many, many years ago I went to my local bbq store to check out these egg things that I had just heard about. Well, I went to lift the lid on the display model and discovered that they hadn't tightened the bands. They weren't even fingered tightened. Well, you could have heard a pin drop in the store after humpty dumpty smashed into a million pieces. Needless to say, I was the center of attention in the store.

Well, there was no warning sign and after I raised the dome I tried to close it AND the sound of bending metal and a POP was not pleasant to say the least! -
I'm sorry to hear about your trouble. Because I move my XL in & out of the garage, I think about a devastating incident from time to time. sine we're building a new deck and the eggs are going to relocate there, I've decided to buy a new style band for the XL. I have to take it apart to nut it up onto the deck anyway.Flint, Michigan
