What skill level is the pre-requisite for the class? This seems amazing, but pretty advanced. I struggle deciding which way is cross-grain.lkapigian said:

Lol, I learned so much here, had to undo all my “ online draconian “ fear of curing meat learning … fresh meat and salt , that’s all there is to know ,GrateEggspectations said:

No skill level at all, though most in my class were “ farmstead “ people , I did cut myself every dayOzzie_Isaac said:

Looks like all of 2023 is sold out. Might keep this in mind for 2024. Looks amazing. I used to help my ex-BiL on his hog farm, but that was just dispatching and bleeding, never butchering.

Looking at a pigs head, that is pretty much right where we shot. Barrel perpendicular to the head.lkapigian said:

Thank you for the heads up! I will probably have to pass this year due to life events, but may see if I can convince the new boss.lkapigian said:

thanks for the bump @ilkaplan this was a fascinating thread. Absolutely amazing. When I was 10 or so, my parents bought half a pig (the left half
) and laid it out in the chest freezer. My dad relegated a hacksaw for just that pig.
Pretty primitive compared to this thread, but you did bring back the memories.~~

This the truth...when I was 9 someone gave my dad a hog's head to make head cheese. Because it was in the winter dad just left it in a card board box out in the garage with a cloth over it. My teenage sister who was prone to pull nasty tricks on me knew that I knew nothing of what I just told you. So late at night she got a flashlight and said she wanted to show me something out in the garage. We got out there and she told me I better bend over close and get ready to see what was in the box. YUP she yanked that cloth off and that grotesque, bloody beady eyed head scared the living sh*t out of me!!!zaphod said:thanks for the bump @ilkaplan this was a fascinating thread. I got back at her that summer though as she was deathly afraid of grasshoppers - I mean REALLY scared! I put some on her several times and her screams could've waken the dead! I got spanked a few times, but it was worth it!!!Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time
