That is hilarious, Ron! She told you this on July 4th, did she? Seems relevant.RRP said:
Totally Off Topic, but years ago we had a lady neighbor from England. As we entered their yard for a 4th of July picnic party I stepped in a pile of a neighbors dog crap! As I tried to “scrape” it off as best as I could in the grass the English lady just laughed heartedly saying “in England stepping in doggie sh*t is a sign of good luck!”I scraped dog crap off my shoe that is more decent than you.
We might have to get a reality check on this one from @Eoin, @Stormbringer, and @CPFC1905."I've made a note never to piss you two off." - Stike

Close but no cigar. 'Muck for luck' is a phrase, it's more often associated with the high improbability of being on the receiving end of a passing bird.JohnInCarolina said:

'Where there's muck there's brass' is probably where it came from. Brass is a colloquial term for money and it infers doing hard work or work no-one else will do pays good money.
So you won't find flocks of turd stompers roaming the highways and byways.Other girls may try to take me away

By actually analyzing the context of the neighbor's claim of good luck, I find it hilariously brilliant to utilize a hard-to-disprove foreign cultural and geographical (all made up) idiom that serves a useful purpose. In this case, regardless of her beast or husband being responsible for the said muck (or not), Ron's spirits were elevated, some negativity erased with thoughts of a new, more optimistic future. Moreover, this will hold up to any scrutiny, as a click amongst schoolmates would technically make it true, even if there were no Wikipedia article. Boils down to a little white lie. In context.______________________________________________I love lamp..

And here I was thinking that perhaps a similar tradition might explain the streets of southern France.Eoin said:

The worst place I’ve ever encountered for dog feces in the streets was Rome. It was everywhere. That, and every car had dents. Still my favourite trip, though.JohnInCarolina said:

Truthfully, I don’t think I saw a single pile in Paris.YukonRon said:Paris and Rome were the worst two cities I had visited in Europe for dog feces. -
The one place I’ve been in France where I really noticed this was in Nantes. I was there for about a month working with a colleague at the Ecole Centrale.YukonRon said:Paris and Rome were the worst two cities I had visited in Europe for dog feces.
At that time I was getting up early in the mornings to run. The first day I tried that, I realized it was very problematic, because the dog poop was everywhere, and in the low light it was hard to see. I was like “what in the hell is wrong with these people?” It was a pretty rude awakening."I've made a note never to piss you two off." - Stike

As someone who is big on privacy, this is a thoughtful approach that I appreciate. I don’t generally even share my first name online. Just a matter of personal preference, really.PigBeanUs said:GATraveller said:Can anyone give me Freds last name? I totally agree, Mike Litt. We should be respecting people's privacy and stuff.GrateEggspectations said:

Might wanna send that info privately and edit his name out. He may not want his real name floating out there, since he never really publicized that here.otter said:Fred is Bob Gorman. I think Flint Mi. area. Last time we messaged was May 2017. I said hi a week ago,
