Looks like, while Hitler and the Axis lost WWII, fascism actually won decades later in Russia.

Since that article was written, they've moved into the mainstream military and some branches of the government. That's a good point. Ukraine's sovereignty definitely suffers threats from right wing Ukrainian fascism as well as right wing Russian nationalism. That they fight each other makes for a rough road for the Ukranian people. My point is that Russia is currently a fascist government and it encourages fascism because it counters Western style democratic republics, which are perceived as their enemy. The link to Hitler is purely historical.

I don’t believe that their gov’t is virtuous vs ours, but they have the right to defend themselves, and a buffer against NATO seems like a reasonable strategy. Especially when both of our political parties seem determined to start a war with a well armed nation like them and China.
I personally think we choose our military enemies strictly on the basis of who our economic competitors are, and not because they are evil and we are good. War is a racket, you might say.Bob

The fairly recent history (before covid) of anti-vaxxers were primarily elite (rich) west coast liberals and what started that modern post-dark-age trend was a flawed, published article on the relationship between autism and MMR vaccination (a paper that has been long rejected and retracted). Andrew Wakefield and 12 of his colleagues published a case series in the Lancet that created the seeds of much of what we see today, including a resurgence of previously controlled disease.People who like chaos (think Steve Banon) do cross political lines and have been posting the real "fake news". The berating of news organizations and government have real world trust at a low point in the public eye. The environment is easy to instill a feeling of "reasonable doubt" (which isn't necessarily reasonable) in public sentiment.
