I'll be in early. May be coming in hot. Last work day of the year for me and my last meeting ends at 1pm.
    Tito's at 1:03 PM?
You got to be in the Holliday Sprit for that last call.......Tito's now!

Even better. I like the cut of your jib

For those of you looking ahead, the following Friday night is Christmas.  I am looking to gauge the level of interest (or not) in opening the Speakeasy on Saturday, 12/26 at around 9 PM as I know enough to not open PM 12/25.
Feel free to offer any insights.

And further down the road, Jan 1, 2021 is two weeks from today.  Given this totally wasted year will then be in the rear-view mirror the Speakeasy will be fully running to enable those attendees to celebrate its passing.
    See ya all tonight!

I'm out for sure next 2 weekends so I'm going large tonight.

Oh boy.  I wasn't planning on swinging by the Speakeasy tonight, but now... now I might have to.

  • @dmchicago - are we going to get a live performance of any of those from the bar this evening?

We are now about to enjoy a guided tour of NOLA's shop.  So jump on for the show.
BTW- We did a drive by of my friend Linda's house.  She acknowledged @nolaegghead but did not offer any Christmas presents.  Maybe next year!

@blind99 -Glad you were able to drop in this evening especially given the weather in Chicago.  Great wines and an impressive cook right there!  Thanks for making the effort.

Early evening close but quite a protracted and enjoyable event.  Many thanks to all who dropped in (props to @stormbtinger and his better half) and enjoyed the wide ranging and entertaining conversation.  It was great fun even if we did not get bidet Christmas songs.
Closed 12/25 but will likely open Saturday 12/26.
Heads up for follow-on planning for Friday entertainment:

For those of you looking ahead, the following Friday night is Christmas.  I am looking to gauge the level of interest (or not) in opening the Speakeasy on Saturday, 12/26 at around 9 PM as I know enough to not open PM 12/25.
Feel free to offer any insights.

And further down the road, Jan 1, 2021, also a Friday.  Given this totally wasted year will then be in the rear-view mirror the Speakeasy will be fully running to enable those attendees to celebrate its passing.

    Merry Christmas to all -
Frank (aka Cap and the horse with a name =) )
Stay healthy and safe out there!

I came back in and the bar was closed early. :D

I may be able to join on 1st January. Until then have a great Christmas.

Please accept my apologies for leaving so abruptly my wife needed help.  Friday nights are not a good time for me but I’ll try to join more often

No worries as your priorities were in the right place.  Glad you were able to drop in and get a flavour (nod) of the typical evening.

Bump to remind that the speakeasy will be closed Friday Dec 25th.
I am trying to gauge if there is any interest in opening on Sat Dec 26th (around 9 PM EST) at least for a couple of hours. (I have no issues with not opening then and waiting til Jan 1st, 2021 for the next session.)
The chairman will enable that to happen (Dec 26th) although he will not be in attendance.
    Any inputs or comments appreciated.

  • Lots of fun last night at the Speakeasy.  At one point I had to split the group into two breakout rooms, we had so many people.

We managed to walk right up to the third rail, grab hold of it, and even give it a warm motherly hug.  Everyone was respectful and I don’t think any egos got bruised.  I don’t think we came up with any solutions for our country’s current malaise (aside from maybe re-education camps!), but we did share some good laughs.

Tip of the hat to the barkeep for keeping us all in line ;)

Gotta admit that I was lost and confused (not unsurprising) when the breakout occurred w/o any alertment.  I found myself wandering the ether for a while but all was fine B)
The value of the laughs cannot be overestimated.  Definitely a needed respite from the events of the past several days.  Thanks again to all for dropping in and contributing to another most enjoyable and entertaining evening.
Until the next one-stay healthy and safe out there.

During the course of last night's Speakeasy session there were a few questions about recent actions and personal impact.  Below is the oath of office all commissioned officers of the US Military take:
"I, [name], do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God."

Below is the oath of office for the President of the United States:
"Article II, Section 1, Clause 8 of the US Constitution:
Before he enter on the Execution of his Office, he shall take the following Oath or Affirmation:–I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

    Nothing additional to offer here.

I thought that politics were a no-go zone within the speakeasy? I have no preference; just curious, really.

The crowd gets close to the third rail when the token Brit joins at zero dark thirty and gets asked "so what's your take on XYZ". :)

We have been generous with the third rail when its just the Brits getting wound up with their concerns regarding 10 Downing St.

@paqman - if you were just wanting to solo vent on the resident of 24 Sussex located in the New Edinburgh neighbourhood (nod) of Ottawa, Ontario you could have had free rein.  As you well know from the forum, US political conversations will only end up consuming oxygen and not changing anything. Besides we try to keep it a much friendlier place  =)
Always welcomed and plan to show up Friday- B)
