The Evolutions book is excellent, and in a few places suggests changes to the Flour Water... book. Also its recipes are for a single loaf rather than two. I have both and use both.

The tax holiday doesn’t apply to most of the things I purchased recently.  Pointless if you ask me… should have used that money to reduce debt.

New garage door springs.   Had a massive failure and thankful no one was hurt.   25 years of stress fatigue, should’ve known better.   Went from 90# to 110# to be safe.

25 years is a good solid run!  I have had to replace them in every house I have owned, and twice in my current house.  I had a company replace them for the first time ever, and they used galvanized springs.  Lasted 4 years only!   Back to replacing them myself.

I have an old garage door (and an old house). What was the massive failure?

Spring parted, shards burst everywhere, embedded spring parts in the walls (finished garage).   Caused the Genie opener to fail,  door hammered the ground.   

It’s an aluminum door but is also insulated.   Here is a pic of part of the parted spring, didn’t take one of the other section nor embedded parts

I have some really tall highbay doors, emptying a can of moly oil down the length is part of a routine maintenance.

WD40 for me on the garage springs, pulleys, and runners.

House had a very heavy wood door and associated springs.  One spring failed.  Replaced door and springs with a relatively light weight aluminum door and supposedly very good insulation qualities.  So far so good 23+ years on.  Likely now jinxed.

Scary stuff there, glad there were no personal injuries and possibly only minor property damage.

@TechsasJim Scary indeed, that's a one piece swing up door, right? I had a close call many years ago.

IMO the sectional door is safer because a broken spring stays threaded on the rod, I would dare change that myself though.

it has springs on either side of the door with the garage opener in the center.   We were walking in the house while door was closing (garage is attached to house) when the right spring snapped.    Sounded like a 12ga shotgun was fired and bits went everywhere.   

I just now found another part of the spring 20’ from where it should be.   

Fun times.   I will not make this mistake again.

Yeah, I’ve never heard of a spring failing like that either.

@TechsasJim My profession is industrial maintenance. The building I oversee has 183 dock doors with springs the size of your calf muscle. I have had many fail over the years but have never had any to come apart in pieces like that.

Weird deal for sure.   Here is another piece I found clear across the garage.   For whatever reason the repair man took all the remnants with him.   I doubt he was going to run a failure analysis which I do in my industry routinely.
