They need one, people are fleeing them in droves.  We dropped our satellite service more than a year ago and have gone entirely streaming.  I don't think we've missed one bit of it, and are paying a fraction of the cost.

dont know what the streaming service is we have, while half the price, its not as easy to use if you generally only watch say 10 or 12 channels. could just be the remote from the samsung tv but its ridiculous to use if the lights are out. with my selections i dont even need to leave youtube tv live or the samsung screen. will see where im at in a year with it. now have internet at the camp though, probably wont use it =)

Which streaming service did you go with? We cancelled our DirectTV and have been happy EXCEPT for not having access to college football games.

Hulu Plus.  We get most live sporting events.  One of the reasons we got it actually has to do with the fact that they were carrying the ACC network.

This is the beginning of your midlife crisis.  Resist the urge to buy a Camaro.  Just say no to the hookers and blow, more trouble than it's worth.  I recommend reading some Jean-Paul Sartre or Man's Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankle.

I've never understood this sort of advice. Why would I resist the urge to buy things that are fun and cool (ok maybe not the hookers) when I have a "midlife crisis" to blame?  Why let a perfectly good crisis go to waste?

It's not just you fish, we picked up youtube tv a few weeks ago just for the few months of football season and we have commercials too. I don't remember that being a thing last year when we had it. It is nice having unlimited DVR though!

  • Nice!!  Congratulations on the new cooker coming.  How long is the wait now?
Just got the email that my KBQ has shipped.  So apparently the wait wasn't very long!

Now to rely on FedEx shipping not to F this up... Sigh.

I'm not saying don't go nuts.  Just:

    buy != (camaro, hookers, blow)

    Nice buy right there @JohnInCarolina.
Regarding streaming and TV signal input:  I wish the services would offer al a carte pricing.  Hopefully we will get there someday.

@GrateEggspectations Haha, I figured it's worth the gamble, apparently this retails for over 200 loonies. Should have no problem disposing it on Kijiji if I don't like it.
If you ever feel the need to sell it let me know. I would like to give one a try but  just haven't  pulled the trigger yet.

I’m happy with it after trying chili oil infusion, plan to try other things. It’s unlikely that I want to part with it anytime soon. Thanks for your interest, sorry. Will let you know if my position changes.

An endoscope, because it was $35 on Amazon.

It seems to have decent picture quality for the price.

Thought I would try to catch up with this thread, and hit a hard stop right here.

    1. So far, you have been using it as an "exoscope". For assistance with using it as an endoscope, feel free to contact me. No charge. As long as you promise to live stream it.

    2. A good bit of bourbon will help.

    3. And, vaseline.

    Paging @caliking

when I wanted one they wouldn’t ship to GWN, discovered recently that they now ship here with $0 shipping. Too late, I now have a Biolite firepit and happy with it.
@wardo Sorry - just saw this.

I love our SoloStove. Yes, it would have been cheaper to crack open an old washer, extract the drum, yada yada. Aint got time for that. You will have a blazing fire in a few minutes. Little to no smoke.

As @saluki2007 mentioned, it doesn't seem to give off a lot of radiant heat. With about 3 splits, we have a nice blazing fire to sit around, and make s'mores, roast marshamallows, etc. Even seared a tritip on it once. Throw in more wood, and... moar fire= moar heat.

If you really want more heat, you should consider a reflecting wall of some sort. I'm thinking about some kind of standing metal piece, behind the SoloStove, to reflect heat. It doesn't get cold enough here to really pursue this, though.

The Breeo looked pretty good too, but doesn't seem as portable. The cooking options/accessories are interesting.

Gave some carbon steel wax for seasoning a try. I sanded my old seasoning off the bottom and wet sanded down to 2000 grit then you apply the wax when the pan is warm then take a fresh paper towel and wipe it all off just leave the thinnest layer then bake in the oven at 500 upside down for an hour and let cool in the oven. This has 2 of the 3 coats done. The pan is freshly washed here no oil or anything on it. Stuff seems to work good and only uses a tiny bit. This container will do probably 50 coats.
