Where to buy wood chunks online

Does anyone have a recommendation of where to buy wood chunks online?  I finished up what was left from when I lived in St.Louis, but central NY does not have a 'local bbq supply' store.

I am looking at Cutting Edge or FruitA right now.  My goal is to order a diverse supply and not need to reorder for a while.
Cutting edge does by box dimesnions.  FruitA by weight.

  • I buy most of my smoking wood from fruita, and also pick some up from Rockwood if I am ordering from the site. I think I have post oak, hickory, and cherry from fruita; peach and maple from Rockwood. Thrilled with all of them.

On our site, it says sold out of hickory and peach chunks......but if you want some, I have a secret stash I can pull from.

I used the Rockwood peach chunks for this first time with my mad max turkey and then again with some lamb and goat ribs because they were so good. I strongly encourage making him plunder the secret stash!

  • I'm piling on at this point, but also recommend Rockwood and Fruita.  I've got a box of cherry from Fruita, and both Sugar Maple and Peach from Rockwood.

Both Rockwood and Fruita products are top-notch, and a significant step up in both consistency and quality from what you'll find in the big box stores from Cowboy and the like.

  • Another vote for Fruita. I've been very happy with my orders from them.

Fruita for me. I get my charcoal from Rockwood but have yet to try their smoke wood.

  • I pretty much use post oak for everything other than a little mesquite in the KBQ from time to time. I cut it down myself from firewood so I haven't ordered any in a few years.

I have not tried Jonathan's but I trust he's not going to sell anything that is not top-notch.

I have used Fruita and it was excellent. The thing I like about theirs is that it is not kiln dried and it's stored in climate/humdity controlled building. That makes a huge difference in the flavor as the moisture in the wood is a huge part of the flavor.

I had a chance to visit fruita woods a few years back.  Great small business operation and they had some unique woods like random types of wine barrels and such ( I think I got a sour cherry wine barrel).  They produce a lot of wine in that area of western Colorado but it’s not your typical wine grapes.  They cut the wood to order from larger splits to either chunks of chips.  Highly would recommend it’s all I’ve used since I visited.

Depending on your location you may want to search out local orchards. They're usually pretty good about tree cuts/trims.

I've got a friend that works occasionally with a tree service, I get a lot of beech through him.

These people are great. Ordered Sugar Maple from them for lots of years.
