Being Thankful

Today is my mother in law’s birthday, she would have been 66. She passed away abruptly in May and it left a very deep hole in my wife’s heart. She was her best friend. We are celebrating her birthday and Thanksgiving tonight with just our family of four and my brother in law’s family of four. Always tough losing a loved one but 2020 has made everything even worse.

I am especially thankful for my family and friends this year. Working from home has been a blessing in disguise because I am able to be there for my wife and help with the kids. The four of us really are best friends and enjoy (most) our time together.

On a lighter note, I am also thankful that my wife and I are cooking our own meal tomorrow for just the four of us because my sister in law’s cooking that we will be having tonight will most likely be mediocre at best. Bless her heart though, it’s the thought that counts.

Hopefully everyone finds something they are truly thankful for over the holiday. Happy Thanksgiving to all!

  • Sorry to hear of your MIL’s passing.  My wife is very close to her mother and so I have some appreciation for what that would be like.

The time we all have is short.  Every day is a gift.  Take care of you and yours and I hope your Thanksgiving dinner is one to cherish.

Tough all the way around but thank you for your post and expressions of what the day means to you and so many.  Stay strong for your wife and family.

Thanks for the topic- through this trying year I have come to realize that the trying times just need a pause and a deep breath. Then realize that time is fleeting and it makes me thankful for me family and friends. Even when my youngest comes out of his room for the 4th time of putting him to bed.

Happy Thanksgiving and sorry for the loss of your Mother in Law.  It sounds like y'all have a great day planned that will be a fitting tribute.

Today is our first holiday without my Father in Law, and we're all feeling it.
