Well that's also want I was told at COSTCO when I had a new set of tires installed - 100% nitrogen they claim and I have yet to have any drop in pressure. Made a believer out of me!johnmitchell said:I was told that if you put Nitrogen in your tires you won’t have that problem
OK - but it comes standard at COSTCO plus FREE if any more needs to be added along with the FREE tire rotation.Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time -

Exactly. That's probably the biggest part of going N2. N2 generators inherently make dry nitrogen based on the technology. That's usually pressure swing adsorption by molecular sieve or membrane.**Anyway, we're talking 1.2 psi per year difference between *dry* air vs dry nitrogen over a year in leaking. Any moisture with temperature swings exacerbates pressure swings.

So...maintain pressure per door jamb or sidewall? What’s the latitude above or below?
THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER -
While the pressure inside a tire does go down with the temperature, the air outside the tire also chills, and gets denser. This denser air pushes in on the tire sidewalls more, popping out the central divot in the tires' contact patch with the road, resulting in a matching situation.

just bought this last week, love it. set it at 35, pumped up the suddenly low tires from cold on 4 cars in about 10 minutes or so.

Motor vehicles suspension and traction systems mfg today are engineered with a specific tire design built into the control unit software. That's why it's important to use the oem recommended tire.Legume said:So...maintain pressure per door jamb or sidewall? Has soapy water been replaced with a dry medium to lubricate the bead when tires are mounted? If not, can dry air or nitrogen overcome all that moisture that remains in the tire after it is mounted?

Yes. to a degree. The tire volume is fixed. That's why there's just one recommended pressure....has nothing to do with temperature. Tires just need to be cold. but it takes more air when it's cold because it's denser. The whole deal here is you set the pressure cold where the outside and inside air are the same temp. What happens when you drive is the tire heats up and that drives up the pressure to where you really want it. If you are low on air you generate more heat and you invite failure and uneven wear. Over inflate and you don't have the heat problem but you lose traction and wear the center tread more than the outside and screw up your tire life.

My buddy had a tire machine at the shop for motorcycle tires. The lube helped them slip on. Not sure if it is needed for leaks, but you def don't want anything that changes phase inside the tire.

why the F is there political crap on this thread? I'm trying to provide a PSA.

OEMs have specific goals in mind. If their goals of cheapest tire and most fuel mileage meet your needs, then by all means stick OEM. I choose tires based on my specific needs. OEMs have a lot to balance. I do not need to make sacrifices due to fleet concerns.frazzdaddy said:

I used to calibrate transmissions for an OEM. I am very familiar with how they work.I would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.
