Repairing a Crack

I have a pretty big crack in my knockoff egg. It goes all along the bottom of the thing, down the middle of it, and halfway up each side. I used an angle grinder to grind out the crack, and pushed some fireplace mortar from a caulk gun down in it. It said to let it burn for a few hours (i don't remember how long) at like 500 degrees. I had the vents all open and I'm sure it wasn't quite 500 degrees in the bottom, but I figured it would be hot enough to dry it out and work alright.
Well it all looked good for a few days, until I realized it was turning to dust. All that mortar just fell right out and the crack is bigger than ever now.
How can I repair this crack? What type of compound can I use that is both food grade and temperature safe?
I've also tried high temp silicone and it didn't dry right either.

Honestly, anything that works, will be most likely be a very temp fix. Doubt if it anything will really hold. SorryThank you,DarianGalveston Texas

I used JB weld extreme heat on my humpty egg. It is put back together at my moms, and it is holding up well, but I only have about 5 cooks on the repaired egg. I repaired the fire ring, fire box, and base with it. Here is a thread on my experience, and a few pics I did not include:

If you use the egg on a wood deck or near anything that could burn i wouldnt risk it. If it falls apart at the wrong time a dumps a load of 500 degree burning charcoal out bad things could happen especially considering how long they are left burning and unattended for a cook. 400 - 700 bucks for a new one seems like pennies for the piece of mind it would provide.

Easy solution, use it on a concrete pad. I would be more concerned about the chemicals and my food. Epoxy is just plastic. If it was rated for food, OK. I know there is silicone gasket that is food grade. I don't know of any epoxy that is.XL BGE and Kamado Joe Jr.

JB weld extreme heat has repairing grills as one of its use cases.

The OP described it as a "knockoff egg". I'm not sure what that means but it probably doesn't have a warranty.Legume said:Just get a warranty replacement"I've made a note never to piss you two off." - Stike
