Well, there was an explosion, although much smaller than expected (it was a 100% robotized operation in an unmanned building). I sat in on the initial "what happened?" briefing (even though I was assigned to the Shuttle side of the house, not Minuteman) and it looked like the machine blew up; the propellant was still sitting there, wet and ground-up. I had just been hired and raised my hand, "This would be a good problem to apply a Fault Tree Analysis to". The team leaders looked at each other, shrugged, and said we'd reconvene that afternoon, and look at my proposal. No pressure!!
I did the initial setup with three branches, we needed a fuel, an oxidizer, and an ignition source. Within a couple weeks we had our answer: the oxidizer was soluble in water, was running into the electric motor, and messing up the motor's lubrication. The shaft eventually began galling, causing a spark, and sure enough the PhD chemists on the team determined the force of the explosion (operation was continually video'd) was just the motor's lube, mixed with the oxidizer! They made about a dozen modifications to the setup, restarted the operation, and never had another issue. That was fun, and I got a nice cash bonus for it!___________"When small men begin to cast big shadows, it means that the sun is about to set."

Hamilton Beach 12-Cup Stack & Snap Food Processor & Vegetable Chopper, Black (70725A)
It was pretty cheap. Under $50. It was rated best in class by CR and BH&G when I bought it. I only use it to make salsa, dips and pesto type stuff. Less than once per month. Easy to use and easy to clean.
Happy hunting!

Here's a link to Cook's Illustrated most recent winners/losers.
Whatever model you choose, covering the bowl with plastic wrap before placing the lid on was a game changer for me. Cleaning the lid was a b**ch.
I have a 10 year old 14 cup Cuisinart that's worked great. I use it mostly for pizza dough (better than stand mixer) and for mincing onion/carrot/celery for soups/stews/chilis/bolognese etc when I don't feel like chopping everything by hand. No issues with the plastics yet, but I never put mine through the dishwasher. It didn't score as high in CI's review but I haven't experienced the issues they're claiming.

Had about 2 lbs of SRF prime rib in the freezer. Decided to do a vegetable beef soup.
The smokey taste from the egg shines through, making this some dang good soup.

Breville 👍The problem with a problem is that you don't know it's a problem until it's a problem, and that is a big problem.

2 # of left over prime rib chopped to 1" square. I gave the pan a bout a couple table spoons worth of evoo and tossed them in cooked until all sides were seared on a medium high heat. I took them out and placed in a bowl, leaving their drippings and evoo in the pan.
The next step, I chopped up a couple of onions and 8 ribs of celery, added another tablespoon of evoo to the pan and sauteed until the onions were translucent, then tossed in 3 table spoons of finely minced garlic. Stirred until bloomed.
After the onions began to turn brown, I added 4 russet potatoes chopped to bite size, 2 cups of baby carrots chopped, 1 42 oz jar of V8 low salt, 2 packs of baby lima beans, 2 packs of sweet corn, two packs of peas, 4 boxes of low sodium beef broth, 1 table spoon of brown sugar, 3 table spoons of sriracha sauce and put the beef back in.
Brought entire mixture to a boil, then turned down heat to simmer.
With the children home from college, we just leave it on the stove....they eat non stop around the clock 24/7.
Pretty healthy, filling and delicious. Freezes well too."Knowledge is Good" - Emil Faber

Just wanted to thank everyone for your help in deciding on which food processor to get.
I went with a Cuisinart from Costco.
Costco warranty is pretty tough to beat.
Shout out to Matt.....see you at BB20

I have a 1-Jeff powered food processor and I take it everywhere I go. That thing will get through most everything, but the output can be erratic sometimes especially if hot peppers are involved. It can get stinky and needs daily cleansing, so that’s a PITA. All in all, not bad for what I paid even if the warranty has now run out.+++++++++++++++++++++++++++Austin, Texas.
