Amusing...  The focus was on how well a pellet smoker.... grills?

There's an accessory you can get for ANY smoker that instantly lets you grill like a star.  It costs $100, and it's called a Weber Kettle.
Funny...I thought the focus was on how well a pellet grill can also smoke.

What would that be worth... $600-ish??

I'm in the steel biz but don't know a thing about the enameling process. I wonder what the markup would be to enamel the body (inside and out) of a YS640.

it's just priced higher than I would have expected considering what's available relatively near that price point.

I'm not familiar with higher end pellet smokers like Yoder and Memphis so can't comment on them. Weber is after the mass consumer pellet grill market dominated by Traeger, based on specs and early reviews, IMO they're priced very competitively to accomplish that objective.

As a Traeger user, I can relate to many design features of Weber SmokeFire, for example:
    1) pellet feed hole is at the bottom of the sloped hopper bottom, to avoid Traeger's pellet void problem (think BGE's centre burn problem)
    2) pit probe positioned in middle instead of almost touching the side of the cook barrel, some Traeger users hack the probe by putting a paper towel between the probe and the side!
    3) pellet slide to separate firepot from auger, to avoid Traeger's burn back problem.
    4) self cleaning firepot
    5) hidden grease/ash collector (no risk of animals diving into your outside hanging grease bucket in case you forget to put it away)
    6) decent searing
    7) SS cooking grates
    8) auger reverse to empty pellets on shutdown
    9) longer warranty on some components
    10) pellet refill sensor
    11) huge pellet hopper (some Traeger users add DIY hopper extension to increase capacity!)

FYI I was watching this review and a minor point is I think they just use chrome plated steel grates. Pretty in depth review if you are interested (grates are discussed at 9:05).

@SmokeyPitt thanks for the link, I stand corrected on the SS grates, will watch full video later. I noticed Harry Soo posted a video too. I'm sure Weber has given free testing units to many so called social influencers and many more reviews will be popping up in no time.

  • Ask a yoder owner about rust.

I helped a friend pick a new Timberline in spring to avoid this issue and he is already on a warranty replacement for paint issues.

There is a reason top Kamado brands can offer a lifetime warranty on the expensive bits while pellets are 3-5 years

Traeger’s Timberline turned out to be a POS.  Google Timberline problems. Lots of pissed off customers!

Local dealer had fits with the Timberline grills, and warranty issues.  He said it was the the most issues he had in all the years he sold Traeger’s.  He now sells gas grills and Blackstone flat tops.

My son’s Traeger had the pellet hopper catch on fire, and trashed the grill.  $800 down the drain!

Do the same with any popular cooker. Huh? It appears they are all POS.

Seems  the Weber Smokefire wasn't all it was hyped to be?

Yup, bleeding edge disaster. They're asking customers to use drip tray to avoid grease fire. Traeger is safe  :)

Harry Soo has done a video and testing on an all day cook with a Weber a viewer of his channel bought. Their all day cook was trouble free. It does seem tho that many folks do seem to be having some problems and the brains of the Weber seem twitchy.
V1.0 is often a little rough. It'll be fixed by V1.1.
