Thanksgiving - Trying Anything New or Traditional?

We'll be down at the ranch again this year for Thanksgiving. MIL will cook a turkey in the oven and over do it, somebody will bring a ham, and I'll be put in charge of frying two or three turkeys. They haven't told me how many yet. The wife and sister in law will come up with something for sides.

I was also told Thanksgiving Eve I'm in charge of hamburgers and hot dogs and the day after I'm grilling fajitas and smoking ribs on the Pit Barrel cooker.

Non-traditional. We are going for over the top chili and bacon onion bombs. Just the two of us so we can do what we want. I was thinking of brisket, but will wait for the Christmas shutdown at work when I have two weeks (paid) off. Not taking any overnight trips this year, so there will be time for lots of Egging.

On another note, @YukonRon - we discovered a new (to us) wine bar. It is called Stave Wine Cellar and is at the Inn at Spanish Bay in the Pebble Beach resort. Wonderful selection of wines including Screaming Eagle and Petrus. The Petrus was a bit out of my price range at $5,000... Their taste and glass prices were somewhat high, but their bottle prices were retail plus $10 to cover service and glass washing.
XL BGE in San Jose, CA. Also a Pit Barrel Cooker, a Cal Flame P4 gasser, and lots of toys including the first ever Flame Boss 300 in the wild. And a new Flame Boss 500.

Prolly gonna do a nekked double smoke ham and Buttermilk brine SV’d turkey breast then sear on egg.  Sides are undecided but I’m thinking a Mashed Sweet Potato Brûlée.  Dessert will be an apple crumble and @northGAcock pecan pie on the egg.
Matt....I wish you much success. My plan for next week is to build a nice fire (outdoor fire pit) and make pies for some neighbors and ourselves. I will repeat this almost daily. Of course this will be accompanied by proper beverageing and assorted other efforts like occasionally throwing another log on the fire. Hard work....but I am up for it. Hoping you and all have a great Thanksgiving week.

Trying rotisserie turkey on the XL, and turkey halves hanging on the WSM.  I really like hanging chicken halves on the WSM, hoping turkey is equally as amazing.

Do they make hangers like that for the BGE?

Haven't picked a protein yet, but am thinking a duck.
Will definitely be making chipotle sweet potatoes, and cooking up these bad boys:

I’ve got a recipe for those I’ll send you.
  • Just had a big (traditional) feast as a pot luck at wife’s office on Friday. Still eating some leftovers today.  I talked her into letting me cook prime rib on the Egg for Thursday’s meal. Our kids thought that sounded good for a change from every years traditional turkey.
  • This will be my first Thanksgiving with my LG. Big green egg! I offered to cook a pork butt for the family too! I have a feeling this is going to be the star of the entire dinner over at my mom's!
  • Will be smoking 2 turkey breasts and grilling 4 pork tenderloins all on the egg...

@SonVolt - check with ceramic grill store:

I have had no better chicken than hanging it over the fire on my WSMs.  Its fabulous.  The WSM would have a greater distance between the protein and the fire compared to an egg, but I would bet its good too.

Finished pic from another cook doing the same method.
