The "Rock" In Rockwood Charcoal?!

2

Comments

  • Not sure who disagreed with me, but I'd like to know how you can get all the rocks out of trees
What kind of idiot thinks rocks grow in trees?  Did someone hit you in the head with a big one when you were a kid?
Not sure why I am replying to a troll, but trees pick things up sometimes as they grow. Sawmills xray their logs because of the things that can be in trees will destroy their blades.
And guess what happens to the pieces they reject......to the charcoal plant they go.  You'll find nails, barbed wire, bullets, and even the occasional arrowhead.  Anything that's ever been shot or hammered into a tree many years forms a knot and gets encased in the wood, and then the charcoal if it doesn't break apart.
If you find a black an red tipped throwing star lemme know.

With such a dusty dirty product going in the bag,  what method is used to ensure the exterior of the bag remains so clean?

Do you use a feather duster to clean it while you personally and lovingly hand sew each bag shut?

I keep my random extra pieces in an old smoker box. I don’t have many, but they’re MINE!

Im intrigued - what’s the weirdest/coolest thing you’ve found in your wood, so far?

Here is my one and only after many, many bags of Rockwood.   Sh#t happens, quality product, awesome company.

Rockwood is my go to lump - great product.  This beats my largest prize from a bag of RocYwood to date - a 1 pound 3.2 ounce black diamond.

I’ve burned over a pallet of Rockwood so far. Have never found any plywood, flooring scraps, trim, tongue/groove etc. Fairly certain that I never will.
    You said "trim".  Nicely done.

Like the other heavy users, I've burned probably close to 300 lbs this year of Rockwood and have zero complaints. Occasional rock, but not anywhere close to BGE, RO or the others.

We use BGE lump at the Ace events and I'm cleaning out rocks frequently.

I switched from Fogo to Rockwood as soon as it was available in the Prop 65 everything will kill you state. At first I was missing the big chunks in Fogo, but the Rockwood works just fine. And it seems to last a lot longer. Even after six to eight hour cooks, I give the Kick Ash Basket a shake, and there is still a bunch of good fuel left. and that reminds me, I have to make a two mile trip to Ace soon...

You never know what you'll find "growing" in a tree.

    Bicycles...

    Cars...

    Even rocks...

Sometimes, even the tree itself is a rock!

As for me, I almost never find rocks in lump. No cars or bikes either. Not in Wicked Good, not RO, not Rockwood. I mostly use RO, quite happy with it.

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

    Cars...

That reminded me of this car in St. Louis......in a private collection (my dad's friend.)

The funny part of the story:  This business owner heard about this car and send one of his workers over to pick up the car for parts.  The owner had cut it out of the tree.  But a fender, or the spare tire, was still stuck in it.  So when his assistant came back him about the piece still stuck, he sent his assistant back to buy the tree.  He ended up paying more for the tree and piece stuck in it, than he did the rest of the car.  There are Duesenbergs, Packards, and V16 Cadillacs in this collection, but this one always above always steals the show.

Not complaining here either.  Rather, I considered the find unique, so much so it is now proudly displayed.....

  • I find a rock in almost every bag of RW. They always look the same, like rough ceramic. They never look like an actual rock. They are never very big either. I can care less. I’ve also found chunks of lump the size of my forearm, that fills up half of my large. RW for life! I always pick it up when Ace runs a sale, since amazon quit getting it. Or whatever site it was. I think it shipped fedex? Had to get 5 bags for free shipping if I remember correctly. Ah the good ol days! @stlcharcoal I love your charcoal keep up the good work! Haters gonna hate!

Found my first two rock diamonds.  After cooking roughly 200 lbs of charcoal last year.  I’ll take those numbers all day.

I’ve burnt over a dozen bags of Rockwood. I have only found about a 2” piece of orange colored rock in my last bag. I assumed it was a piece of kiln. I’m not mad. It’s still the best charcoal of the half dozen brands or so that I’ve tried. I bought a new bag today. I’m a happy customer.

If anyone is somewhat local to STL I highly recommend driving up to see @stlcharcoal in person and buying as much as you can. I bought a pallet earlier this year and I'm about halfway through it. Looks like another spring trip!

My wife, son, and I took a trip to STL to sightsee a while back. @stlcharcoal let me leave my trailer all day at his warehouse then come back later to get it and load up. He let us hang out at the warehouse for a while, the delorean is cool! My son loved the swing inside so I have to get one now!

Great hospitality and really great lump from the stl charcoal company!
